While I haven't seen much in the way of uniformed police, I did notice a fair amount of fire engines in this years tour - in all sorts of mad places, but especially in the hills. It's something I never really noticed in previous tours, and tbh I didn't give it much thought as to why they were there.

This breaking news has just made sense of it - even though there's no suggestion of a link to terrorism (atm).

Nice warm up for this afternoon by Hinault, Abdo and Vino lol

I'd have thought Hinault'd have on a beret, a breton shirt, with a string of onions round his neck; complete with the obligatory gauloises hanging from his mouth & a pencil moustache, these days.

Only joking Bernie, lad........You're looking well - and well enough to win that race too!

(Was him got me interested in the tour as a kid)

I kinda thought they'd have him going up d'Huez before the riders to crack some of the 'fans' over the head and whip them into shape. He hasn't had to push anyone off of the podium for a while now. I do love the badger, a super character :)

Must say, despite his obvious snideness, I loved Vino as a rider too. Was always a gutsy rider.
