I read somewhere that he considered that the public would not be eager to hear messages of apocalypse and doom and gloom. The more modern examples of nature programmes are a far cry from 20 years ago.

Perhaps in his 80/90s, after a mountain of evidence and a changing attitude (of which he had a large hand in swaying), he felt it the appropriate moment to raise public awareness.

I can't remember many other examples of nature TV documenting so well the impacts of human activity on the natural world.

Does it go far enough? Probably not. Could it have come sooner? Yes. Has it influenced pubic opinion? Yes.

As for his animal perversions - unforgivable!
"doom and gloom, apocalypse" ???....... you believe that he said that in all sincerity, really?

forget the recent "we`re all going to die from what`s little more than the common cold" narrative but we`ve all grown up in an era were "bad news" sells

and yet..........

scare stories have always been the mainstreams meat and potatoes - your favourite "Climate Warming" -

"the sea is rising" etc etc etc

what a joke

and again, i`m not talking about "Climate Warmings"

you`re contradicting yourself.- one minute you`re saying he didn`t want to be alarmist and the next you`re saying there`s plenty of documentaries on it!

you don`t need to be a scientist to notice habitat destruction.

the founder of Greenpeace was virtually ousted from the organisation , he was disgusted that it had become politicised.

if Attenborough had anything about him at all he would`ve told the truth instead of not wanting to be seen as "niche, fringe and alarmist" he`s a two-bit narrator who voiced over most of those programmes.
Just because there is content, does not mean it's mainstream. It was niche. There's nothing contradictory about that.

Perhaps I could've done more to not conflate climate and environmentalism concerned with conservation, but there is a documented history of Attenborough talking about, raising awareness of and taking action on conservation.

I'm confused about what truth he could've/should've told? Perhaps you can elaborate

Are we talking about climate, Covid, environmentalism, conservation here, you seem to be a bit scattergun?

Also you've quoted my recollection of his words, not his actual words. He may not have said those precise things. I wouldn't draw too much inference from them.

never had

habitat destruction.

he`s had a lifetime with a platform were he could`ve given this issue the hard sell but he followed his pay-masters orders.

David Bellamy - a true man of the people spoke out and was immediately cancelled.

"doom and gloom, apocalypse" the general public not being able to take bad news etc etc

why do you insist on getting me to do the heavy lifting in these discussions - its boring and needless.

also, i thought you`d be delighted i mentioned your favourite "current thing" - the climate

The man that had a 40 year tv career?

Who claimed he was shunned from TV as a result of his views on climate change, mainly because his position as a voice of authority on environment was at odds with scientific consensus, using incorrect information and directly opposed to the position of the organisations he was a figurehead for?

Perhaps you could ease your burden by not writing 3 paragraphs of waffle.

i`ve done the math.

thats seven (7) words in one (1) post

quite an improvement Poon but capitals should be used for God and in the singular too

i
f you concentrated more and weren`t distracted and/or influenced by less salubrious members it would be possible for you to achieve a consistently higher standard of post.
They should also be used at the start of a new sentence.

i haven`t got "favourites"

too numerous to mention but John Pilger, Oliver Stone - they`re up there. most others aren`t really household names

Yes, I'm talking more where do you get your daily news from.

Genuinely just interested considering your distrust of anything mainstream, which does kind of contradict itself when you put up Oliver Stone as an independent journalist.

Never had Facebook.

Edgy.
ah! another Gif/minimum dialogue poster.
