What is happening in Britain is happening throughout much of Europe. It's therefore not primarily the fault of the Tories or Brexit. It is a structural decline caused by generations of politicians Europe wide. You can fight it all you wish but Europe is about to enter a chaotic political phase. No arguing with me on here will prevent it.
It is this digital age, or fourth industrial revolution that is causing the shifts. It was always going to reshape society because it opened the door to diverse groups to connect, information to be shared instantly, and mass communication to be open to all. It is already transforming multiple MACRO factors including the things we are seeing in the UK now.
You might, or probably should say that our political and judicial systems are outdated. Whatever the thniking they are certainly under the spotlight now. Same for the US and their political system that, like ours allows business and money/lobbies to keep power in a few hands, even that of a felon and sexual predator!
A colleague (Treky research fellow) once mused that societal change and challenging traditional power structures through technology could see us head toward a utopian Star Trek society or a totalitarian, militaristic autocracy as portrayed by the Empire in Star Wars. The challenges of misinformation pushed by the likes of Trump, Musk, Putin et al, and resistance from the “powers that be” may not just slow any radical transformation toward utopia but could push us toward an evil empire.
The next few years will be a bumpy ride but it may well be that the US needed a Trump like figure to give the people the volley up the ar$e, toward positive change. Putin, with his puppets like Musk are asking questions of Europe and the UK and I think it will eventually backfire on them here also.
I think that this transformative shift is unstoppable outside of a global catastrophe but it is the result of technological innovation.
