Interesting outcomes in Icelands shorter working week experiment, though not unexpected for anyone who has read previous data on the matter

I currently work a 32 hour week (on paper) in a job I enjoy, and I've never been in a better place mentally.

It's almost like work isn't the most important thing in life and a lot of HR bumf about progression, satisfaction and so forth is just that. Bumf.

I don't drive, don't have a car, have no wish to buy a car.

But that is a horrendous advert in my opinion.

I always associated Jaguar as a brand as something luxurious and aspirational. A car you'd get if you've really made it.

That advert says none of that to me, may as well be advertising a 6th form art exhibition.

Most of all it feels needy. Like they've tried to desperately tack on to the current social campaign.

A top brand makes you think you need it, not the other way around.

I didn't mind the commercial but your last sentence is quite true, but only a few brands can pull that off. The one that comes to mind is Rolex. The most conservative brand in terms of not changing its products or its advertising. They have rarely bent to customer demands, and produce "safe" and staid adverts, and yet their demand goes up and up, even while they raise prices on items that pretty much nobody needs in a practical sense (yet everyone wants).

Remember all the fuss in here over the new Jag? Hasn't been unveiled yet but there are some leaked pictures of the new Wokemobile (concept):

I hope all the accusations of being designed by the DEI Woke Brigade will now be put to bed.

Some of our resident contrarians would do well to watch this:

This is really excellent. He makes a lot of good points, but a major thoughline is simply being reflexive and self-critical, which is something that is evidenced here on GOT. Folks who identify as left are fully capable of criticizing left-wing politicians, but many of the MAGA clowns cannot, for a moment, find fault with Trump/the right. If they do, as this fella indicates, their entire socio-emotional edifice become artifice.

There’s a clear asymmetry here, as evidenced by the POTUS thread, where more Trump-leaning folk are saying ‘well you’re all silent about Biden pardoning his son’, but in fact most on the left have said pretty clearly, ‘this is bad, I don’t agree, think Biden is out of order’. (There are exceptions of some backing Biden, saying why should the left be held to a different standard etc, but people are by no means bothered about calling Biden out).

We all know that Trump could pardon the Unabomber, and people would be clamouring to defend him.

Similarly, I noticed in the election run up how well the right police themselves, on backing the party. See when Kyle Rittenhouse came out and said he wouldn’t be voting for Trump, and was very quickly slapped back in his box by the online machine, to the point where he pledged allegiance to Trump within a couple of days. That type of conformity behind Trump and the party is non-negotiable for many MAGA types.

Indeed, your quote about being left and still being able to criticize the left re: the Biden pardon, was the most recent one that I was thinking of.
