Kids had food in their bellies at school, food banks were virtually unheard of, unemployment was at record lows and prosperity was at its highest in the post war period.

Didn't know how good you all had it at the time but the centrists weren't exciting or ideological enough...

One of the reasons for this was the introduction of tax credits which was very much a left wing policy.

Tax credits literally allowed my wife to go to uni (and become a medical specialist) while I worked and stayed home with the kids. Without them lord knows where we would have ended up.

Most people would or should receive about the same on UC tbh. Tax credits could be a nightmare for people on variable income. Tonnes of people ending up in massive debt.
