The vast majority of climate change scepticism is funded and pumped out by oil lobbies who simply have to frame climate change as some leftist plot to get gullible fools to do the "door-to-door" stuff thereafter, completely drowing out the important information with nonsense.

I mean, there's a great example here. We have a poster who has been in and out of jail, who struggles with basic syntax, can't capitalise words or point an apostrophe in the right direction and who is genuinely convinced he could sit down with a climate scientist and debate them point-to-point and win. It is an amazing feat of marketing

It’s the rise of the ‘faux intellectuals’. Think they can be an authority of Knowledge on a subject after lazily following various YouTube algorithms and choosing to believe what ever suits them. Takes people years of study and research to be able to critically dissect empirical data and analysis and now we have all these little weasels who think they are at the same level.
Think we are seeing it more and more in this forum to be honest. The covid thread was full of people posting academic sources after scanning over the abstract and thinking they had a ‘gotcha’ moment.

Big Oil's long-game con was very successful. So successful that you need a very clear sense of self to swallow all that pride when you learn that you're the patsy, the dupe, the fall-guy. Most folks don't have the emotional resolve to face that sort of self-reckoning, so instead they just hammer on posting dumb youtube videos filled with arcane arguments and fantastical leaps of logic that are easily dismissed.
