Cricket

Joke this. Now even the Ashes gets shunted around to make way for that 'Hundred' monstrosity. No Test matches in August when as long as I've been a cricket fan there's always been two in that month. The sooner this waste of time concept is binned from an already crowded calendar the better.

59 all out!

Just WOW!

Now Essex need to be clubbed hard for a county championship game finishing in one and a half days!
I agree, but the ECB do need to be looking at whether tracks in late September are likely to be of sufficient quality. That’s not a defence of Essex but it is a bit different to producing a track like that in July and should be treated as such.

The issue is that by putting the hundred on free to air they’ve given themselves a permanent get out of jail free card because they’ll always argue it’s seen and recognised by more people than any other competition and so vital to the game. The fact the same would apply to any other competition not behind a paywall will be ignored.

It's a joke of competition, I don't watch it. Who is there to support? I've no interest in the 'Manchester Originals'. Like most on here, Lancashire and England are my teams.

Now something as historic as the Ashes is being moved around for it with 5 Tests in just 45 days. You are just flogging the players to death, particulary the bowlers. I recall Ashes series starting in early to mid June and the last Test finishing on the Monday Bank Holiday in late August. There isn't any ODI's nor T20s against the Aussies either.

It’s ridiculous having the Hundred and the Vitality Blast, either one of them is enough surely?

I disagree.

I've spotted one thing I agree with - the change in the points system for the Championship.

A trial of a bonus-points system in the County Championship is proposed as follows:

Loss: 0 points

Draw: 1 points

Win without scoring more than 324 in any innings: 3 points

Win with any score of 325-399 in any innings: 4 points

Win with a score of 400 or more in any innings: 5 points

Batting and bowling bonus points served a purpose when they were brought in - to make the game more attacking. They've long outlived their usefulness, are artificial and have no relevance to Test cricket. Former England captain and coach Raymond Illingworth proposed something similar to this about 30 years ago - finally the ECB have caught up with the great man.

I've always found it ridiculous that a team can lose by an innings and go away with something like 4 points when they deserve nothing.

Trialing the kookaburra ball is also good, but was likely coming in anyway.

The fact that each county in each division gets to play each other twice in the CC and it takes place in June & July instead of April and May and.............no....that’s it.

The whole 'rival series' stuff just to pump up the number of Red Ball games, when the best players will be busy, is laughable

The Hundred is the anchor on this calendar despite it being a massive money loser. Despicable

Agreed and agreed. The Hundred is the problem not the solution. An Ashes series with no game in August? GTF.
