Cricket

My word they suck, I'm sorry but it's been the same thing for three or so years, but what's changed? They just constantly keep chopping and changing the batting line up. They're all so so weak mentally.

Root has made a shocker here with the toss, a lot of people said that at the time.

Has anyone noticed noticed the bad news specialists, I don't particularly mean anyone here, just those who only post after a really bad defeat, a massive collapse or sometimes just to moan like hell as to why we didn't declare on our way to a crushing victory?

They were nowhere to be seen for a while as we took a 2-0 series lead, but today and tonight they're everywhere on every site, they're truly back and out in force, almost resultant in the opportunity to post their condemnation.

Yes England had a day which went from good to bad to worse, although tbf the second session was probably the worst and the session that really lost them this test. They once made a film called 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' and England demonstrated cricket's version of it today.

Root's decision to field has really backfired in quite spectacular fashion. The conditions played a part to an extent, as yesterday afternoon the sun came out and the pitch suddenly became becalmed, but yesterday morning and today, the cloud cover was back and sixteen wickets have fallen in one day. Often at Trent Bridge its as much a case of looking up rather than down at the wicket.

After getting all the luck at Lord's, they were perhaps though due their fair share of being somewhat less than fortunate. The old saying that you can't win a match in a session but you can certainly lose one, was never more true.

Full marks to Pandya for five wickets and using the prevailing conditions to full advantage.

England will have to think very hard about their side for The Rose Bowl. There are a number of people under threat, but the two openers especially are now susceptible, Burns could easily be given a chance at last. The batting is still their real vulnerability, and trying to strengthen their weakest point should be the priority imo.

I actually don't blame Root for not batting in those conditions. We would have probably been bowled out for the same score anyway. The lack of application in trying to build an innings is absolutely shocking. Time to completely get rid of the top order bar Root, Bairstow and Pope. How long has the likes of Cook got before they are given the boot.

All dues to Pandya and what can one say about England's batting?

It has been plagued by insipid collapses like this. Mainly for it resembles a piece of Swiss cheese. The demise of Cook has been huge and Root has been very average all summer. Jennings isn't test class. Pope is a great prospect but still a boy in a mans world

Then the three all rounders;

Stokes is proven but has been average with the bat. Bairstow gets dues but bats in the top 6 yet averages under 40 in a batsman's age. And Buttler has been selected on the basis of form in the IPL and this defines him. He is a pyjama cricket swisher and not test class.

Making wholesale changes though is a recipe for disaster, we're 2-1 ahead not 3-0 down, and going overboard will simply sink the ship.

This team dominated at Lord's and wild swings of fortune have been an all too common trait in recent home series. We haven't lost a proper three or more home test series for a very long time, and won the vast majority, it's no time to panic.

16 wickets fell in one day, it was a day ideally suited to swing bowling if you pitched it on a fuller length and in the right places. They can bat, as demonstrated in more favourable conditions in their last knock, reaching 396-7 declared.

It's a tired old cliché but throwing the baby out with the bath water isn't the way forward. Probably Curran will come back in as five tests in six weeks means rotation is likely, Surrey's Rory Burns should come in for Jennings too.

Collapse after collapse. Yet England continue to employ Mark Rampraksh as batting coach.

Given what a huge failure he was at Test level it's no real surprise our batters don't seem to be getting any better after being coached by him. Surely there's someone more qualified out there?

.....as in football, the best players do not necessarilly become the best coaches. I have no idea how capable a coach Ramprakash is.

If England could catch everyone would still be asking if he could bat in England. He's been very lucky in this series, let's put it that way.
He has made the most of it though......magnificent player...think he has done a lot of work in thinking how he can better adapt to English conditions.

Looking forward to these last 2 days now.

Lets face it, recent history will suggest all out by tea tomorrow. But the beauty of test cricket is that a mega run chase, over 2 days, is on.
