Root letting himself down badly here. Inexplicable tactics and the match is now right in the balance

Why has an injured Wood bowled and not Anderson? They've let emotion take over from logic and common sense.

His field placings are horrendous for an experienced captain. Hardly anyone on the square putting pressure on the batsmen. When you deny easy singles that’s when someone will have a heave and sky one. Instead, fielders stationed around the boundary means easy runs. And don’t even get me started on not having a third man.

Our traditional problem of not being able to get tail enders out is exacerbated by the fact they seem to be finding it easy to score runs. Pitch the ball (every ball) up and on the stumps.
Its about time we started practising getting tail enders out.

It's been poor tactics but to be honest I couldn't see England chasing down anything near 200 on the final day regardless. Game had draw written all over it yesterday.

The game was right there for England with India about 175-8. The bowling and captaincy since the 8th wicket fell has been diabolical. Root is obsessed with bowling short at tailenders even though it never works.

The bowling is dictated by the field set. If you place 4 men on the boundary you are basically taking catches behind the wicket out of the equation. The only men who should be deep to the tail is the deep fine leg, and the deep third man.
