Cricket

Durham 327 - 6 in their 50 overs at Gosforth. At one point they were 171 - 6 in the 33rd over but an unbeaten 103 from Sean Dickson, ex-Kent, and 69 from teenager Luke Doneathy took the game away from Lancs. Morley was the best bowler with 2-55, but Lamb conceded 81 and Hurt 68 in their 10 overs. Taylor Cornall, making his debut in place of the injured Jennings, dropped a simple catch late on, as well as a more difficult one shortly after. he's a left-hand bat who shared a big partnership with Mike Atherton's son for their university in a game against Yorkshire at the start of the season.

Still annoyed with that batting display yesterday,it’s not the first time and won’t be the last with this line up. Players like Sibley and Lawrence aren’t Test match batsmen.Though I’m not sure there are many alternatives who could do better.
The fixture list, due to the 100,has meant no red ball cricket for 6 weeks which is a ridiculous way to prepare for a test series.
At least our bowlers are trying to make up for it.

I know all the counties will have been effected by varying amounts, but Lancashire seem to have lost an unbelievable amount of their side to the hundred and the test matches.
Yes, they've a much weakened team and were well beaten by a much more experienced Durham team today, losing by 87 runs. Looking at the Durham side, I think there was only Carse missing. Lancs scored 240 all out in the 44th over, and although they never looked like reaching Durham's total, it was a creditable performance given that their two most experienced batsmen, Wells and Croft, both failed.

Bohannon played nicely for 52 but got out tamely when he needed to stay in, Jones scored an aggressive 65 before a freak dismissal, Lavelle showed his potential with three sixes and a couple of fours in his 38, and Cornall marked his debut with a neat unbeaten 23, including two sixes, batting at number 8. Earlier, Morley was the pick of the Lancs bowlers.

Davies, Jennings, Livingstone, Vilas, Wood, Hartley, Parkinson, and Mahmoud would have made a difference! It's good, though, to see the youngsters play against such a strong team and they all performed creditably.

Plus buttler and Anderson

When Sky pundits were discussing the England batting lineup on Wednesday morning, I heard Strauss saying “Lawrence seems to be made of the right stuff”. I just can’t see it myself, his technique looks too “white ball” to me.

And as for Sibley, he’s making Chris Tavare look like Viv Richards. Solid opening partnerships are one thing, but the objective of a batsman is to score runs. He’s painful to watch.

Anderson is still England's best bowler but I've been very impressed with Robinson. Looks like he will bowl well in Australia and has that similar action to Hazlewood.

Anderson and Robinson have been the only good bowlers. Broad and Curran have been well below par. He will no doubt prove me wrong again but I'm starting to wonder if Broad is on the decline. Hasn't looked like taking a wicket and bowled lots of 4 balls
