Will there be any punishment for India given the five day Test won't even last two full days?
There is no excuse to make less than 200 in the entire match. The wicket is poor but that is pathetic batting. The amount of batsmen who got done by the straight ball was ridiculous and shows they hadn't a clue how to approach their innings.
I know what you mean. As a unit i wouldn't be as harsh I don't think. The pitch just has so many demons in it that the players end up looking stupid. One ball's turning and bouncing, the next goes straight and low. It just looked like a lottery really, I don't think you could build an innings on it, you could go out and have a go and with a bit of luck it comes off and you get a decent score, but when Joe Root's just taken 5-8 I think you have to say it was always going to be pretty difficult to play Ashwin.I do wonder if that big 500+ innings for India really hit their psyche a fair bit.
Either way though, I don't think England have played anywhere near well enough across the 5 innings they've had. And yes Foakes is a fine example, he's stuck with the tail and he's prodding and poking about.
I said at the start, England are not going to be batting big or long on that pitch. They are not good enough. The two lads who've had a bit of success have been Stokes and Crawley who have at least tried to be positive in very challenging conditions. The rest of them plodding along at 2 rpo on a pitch they can't bat in seems very poor strategy for me.
I mean it's a hard wicket, but it's not impossible. There's been a lot of playing from the crease, and missing straight balls for me.
Essentially, sitting on the crease, waiting for the inevitable ball that won't spin which will whack you on the pads.
That really wouldn't show it's not the pitch though. At all.I expect India will knock these runs off fairly easily as well, showing it's not solely down to the pitch.
Well, Root has done ok but it's all a bit ad hoc. The whole attitude is most unprofessional. I suppose its entertaining for the non-purist but personally I'd rather see a day of the likes of Boycott or Gooch dealing with the best bowling in the world than this circus. Why only one spinner for us?!
Wasn't like that in my day doncher know old bean. Remember in those halcyon Empire days when Smythe-Emberry knocked up 250 before lunch, and we allowed the Indian chaps to get to 57 all out.shambles and disgraceful. Everything about this series stinks
I read somewhere that, apparently, he wants to be known as an all-rounder. Have never seen anything in his batting to justify this.Archer just isn't very good with the bat. People keep talking him up but he looks like a no.11 to me.
