Cricket

I think this explains it pretty well.

Not really commenting on them not being within the law, conclusion and a replacement necessary I just don't like the sub being such a specialist bowler so well suited to do the job.

Not sure how flexible you can be with subs, maybe one selected at the toss with the teamsheet, but having specialists in that position may prove crucial.

Had the best of both worlds Jadeja's gun batting and Chahal's gun bowling, even if Jadeja is a very good all-rounder - It allows the less scrupulous to use an element of replacing him is an imperative and will give us a huge advantage.

Rugby has shown doctors can be persuaded to take no risks even when they see none - not everyone is honest and obeys the letter.

They've introduced a sub for this year's Big Bash.

I know and they'll no doubt try and copy India, it's a big advantage to replace someone half way with the right player.

I've seen too much with other sports to know team medics and indeed doctors can be less than perfectly honest and why today wasn't a particularly happy outcome for me - although all perfectly legal and a concussion sub must be allowed.

It could look like a variant of when a substitute fielder was allowed for an 'injury' to a player.

Usually teams find ways of playing every rule so they can gain an advantage, professional sport and what's at stake make it inevitable, it may not have been the case here but we won't alter human nature especially with such a big gain to be had.

Weren't Liverpool claiming Karius was still suffering from concussion months after the CL final he threw away so much so he repeated it against Tranmere in s pre season friendly?

Concussion is so serious you shouldn't take any chances at all but it still leaves the possibility for gaming the rules as we've seen in other sports. Humans won't stop trying to seek every advantage even when it's a good law.

You are meant to replace like for like so while Jadeja is seen as a containing spinner as part of his formidable all round ability, Chahal is seen as an aggressive one and on the right pitch a potential match winner.

I don't like this result at all and normally I would have, far from a hissy fit I would say they've every justification. It's one that should always carry an asterisk after the official result imo.

Reading Ollie Stone is set to start, Tom Curran may also lose out to Moeen as this Paarl wicket is expected to turn

Probable - Roy, Bairstow, Root, Morgan, Buttler, Billings, Moeen, Woakes, Rashid, Wood, Stone

As predicted on Friday, the game is off due to a Covid outbreak at the hotel.

This was predicted by most in the press on Friday likening the hotel to Newcastle United's training ground, why they even bothered to retest is beyond me, they should have abandoned then.

It has to be questioned whether staying was wise as the England players may now have problems on re-entering the UK. Quarantine can't be ruled out and Christmas preparations with their families disrupted, all so unnecessary.

England are due to fly home on Thursday if I was them I'd be on my way to the airport right now, it's the 6th December, add on a possible 14 days in quarantine and that would make it the 20th December, why on earth stay until Thursday? Just tell South Africa to play amongst themselves instead, have no part in it and come home now.

Second ODI cancelled, time for England to come home.

I'm afraid it's probably too late for two England players who may now be positive for Covid, unconfirmed as they're waiting for the details but if it's all as thought then I'm afraid staying on will have cost them some considerable inconvenience.

If the likes of the English press were calling so clearly to call it a day last Friday comparing it to Newcastle, then it has to be asked why in earth did the English management not act decisively then and go home? If the press thought the hotel likely to be affected then couldn't the management realise staying is not on, these aren't tabloid journalists and were just using common sense and what's known about how the virus can infect an environment.

Christmas quarantine now looks to be the price for two players and all that will bring mentally for themselves and their families, poor, poor decision to stay - their environment was never secure enough.

Tour called off.

Quite damaging for Cricket South Africa with a few touring nations due to follow England this winter. You'd think they'll need persuading things will improve with their bubbles after this carry on.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) always seems to be in some sort of bother, so this is just the latest in a long line. They're a bit screwed really because they rely on TV money.

Apparently the people running CSA don't always have cricket at the forefront of their agenda - accusations of corruption etc, little wonder they constantly struggle financially.

England will need to check the arrangements in Sri Lanka are watertight no laxness allowed, they can't afford the nearly Covid secure bubble - it's not good enough if the Covid rate in a country is rising.

Nasser going on about the ECB and our arrangements so we should honour those in the RSA as if the two are equivalent, the virus doesn't recognise such arguments and was always liable to cause problems over there - easy to say the players should play.
