IPL Commitments maybe ?How come root could play for Yorks but butter couldn't play for lancs?
Yes, he's already gone.IPL Commitments maybe ?
A great if extremely fortunate win for Lancs last night. You'll have to watch an awful lot of games to see the equal of two lbw decisions (see below *) Livingstone got away with, quite incredible slips from the umpires, Peter Hartley and Steve O'Shaughnessy, Hartley at fault too so hard to pin it on obvious home bias from O'Shaugnessy.
As Cricinfo said...
The second-wicket pair were not without fortune. Inside the Powerplay, there were three lbw appeals from the spin of Adam Lyth and Dawid Malan which all looked out. The first of those, with Livingstone not yet in double figures against Lyth, was hardly appealed for.
I've seen Lyth's two and they weren't even hard to give, incredible really, each pitching on middle stump and going onto hit middle stump at least half way up but nowhere near the bails. The commentary team all thought one of them was out and was surprised at the lack of a vociferous appeal, but Lyth pleaded for the second which was equally blatant. I didn't catch Malan's one but when handed such largesse from the umpires you have to take it.
We'll take such huge lucky breaks though as other matches you have to suffer. Was there no third umpire, incredible that they didn't request drs, although apparently there was a TV umpire available
(*) Or any game which has Richard Illingworth umpiring.
That Livingstone one against Lyth was definitely missing leg stump and definitely missing off stump so I don't know how any umpire could give it out!
Fielding won it for Lancs with the run outs. Root was superb and that was the only way they were going to get him out. All credit to him for wanting to play.
As predicted, Lancs batting after Vilas in this format is their biggest weakness and will probably see them lose when they reach the knockout stage - unless their luck holds. Neither of Jones or Bohannon are suited to crash bang cricket, Lavelle and Balderson are novices.
Hartley bowled well again - he looks a promising cricketer. Doesn't seem to spin it as much as Morley but Lancs clearly have a lot of confidence in him as they are picking him ahead of Stephen Parry.
Poor for the aussie games for sureRoot been gash for weeks.. turns up tonight.
