Cricket

That was a big session and perhaps the turning point of the whole match. Superb from England's bowlers especially Broad, Anderson and Woakes, control early wickets and squeezing them dry. Classic comeback and they have their noses in front now. With both sides fielding ridiculously lengthy tails they have to really bite now and must hope to dismiss them for not too many more.

At this point in time England are definitely ahead but they have to be ruthless and finish it. They only have five batters and Buttler themselves, are equally vulnerable and bat last on this wicket.

The guys in the TV studio, Nasser saying what was missing and they perhaps needed was some real pace, perhaps Mark Wood might play the next one. They have Ollie Stone too in reserve (not this series) so they do have competition if they want one real pace man in each test.

There's two sides to every story and Pietersen may well have stood up for Trott, a fellow SA, and Carberry, who he knew from his Hampshire days, but there's a long list of cricketers with less flattering accounts of Kev when he was in his prime, notably James Taylor.

Taylor recounts the first and only words Pietersen said to him at their first encounter at an England net session were "What are you doing here?" before walking away, and had completely ignored him at another training session.

Even before the game had even started, he was telling the coaches and other players that Taylor shouldn’t be in the team, and then that continued during the game itself, despite the fact that Tatlor's support at the other end had allowed him to play one of the greatest knocks of his career.

Then there's his belittling of county pros and his spat with Jamie Porter, the Essex bowler, and his falling out with players at Notts etc.

I've also heard tales about how good the older Kev was with younger players, the same with Broad and Anderson, but then we all mellow as the years fly past, don't we.

This is exactly what I was trying to say, but badly. KP is playing the victim now and behaving like he cared about the likes of Trott when actions like above show he was as big a bully as any of them.

Wtf is root doing? Bowling himself and bess to get to the new ball,we've got 4 bloody seamers, could easily have bowled woakes and archer for 3/4 overs each and then give the new balls to broad and Anderson. The other two will be perfectly rested by the time for their spells, they've just had bloody lunch!

Terrible dreadful captaincy.

27 runs gifted to Pakistan when they were hugely under the cosh. It was a bad enough idea to start with, but to then persist with it was ridiculous. It didn't help Bess bowled a load of rubbish.

Root is a tremendous cricketer but an utterly woeful tactician

I think a lot of hatchets got buried after the tragic passing of Strauss's wife, perhaps gave a lot of players who knew her a bit of perspective.

Masood is 126 not out as I post this. Buttler gave him two lives yesterday. The missed stumping was a howler.

Right on queue another dropped catch, an utter liability, keep him in the shorter format and look for a new keeper. He's only in there for his batting and he's not even doing great in that department. You can get away with it in the shorter format, but you need a proper good keeper in tests, dropped catches can last a day or two.
