Cricket

CM-J, Trevor Bailey, Henry Blofeld, Don Mosey John Arlott, also when the Aussies were over Alan Mcgilvray.
Remember particularly one very wet Saturday morning c1988. No play but the team had Eric Idle in the box with them. Majestic entertainment.
It's not fair to compare. Those old guys had led full lives and had a wealth of interesting stories to tell at the drop of a hat. But listening to Michael Vaughan droning on about the candidates for the England captaincy, and repeating himself frequently, doesn't make lockdown any easier!

They all just seem to have their own axes to grind these days.

Well on, off, on, off and rain clouds all over the place. The weather is looking dodgy for the rest of the day and looks similar tomorrow with dodgy black clouds for much of it, even if possibly more play. This may have to be all over in three days, in effect, to get any kind of result. England will be satisfied to have got through only one wicket down after Sibley's 'no shot offered' dismissal.

Welcome back test cricket - where did global warming disappear to?

Uneven bounce gives a clue to why England have batted first, that is likely to only get worse as the game progresses. With spin likely to come into it in the fourth innings not batting last may be key.

As predicted by virtually everyone it looks like it for the day, so hopefully these two can settle in for the long haul tomorrow, both have been impressive.

I suppose one good thing is no spectators are now treading home disappointed and thinking they've been somewhat short-changed.

The problem is, the weather looks much better for days 3 and 4. Could be ideal batting conditions. Would love to have seen Anderson bowling those few overs today, and maybe similar tomorrow.

Yes I saw that, I suppose the winning formula in South Africa was bat first, score slowly and get overs in the legs of their bowlers to make hay later.

To me it looks as if the weather has almost taken over this test match. We've lost a day and possibly more to come tomorrow. If the pitch is slow and the sun shines it's hard to see a result.

England's best hope is we make 200 and the sheer pace of Wood and Archer scare their inexperienced batting line up - blowing them away, so virtually two innings in a day with day three and some of four to build the lead before winning on day five.

Batting on beyond 150 to 200 pretty much forces them to look for a big total (which I'm not sure they're capable of anyway) and trying to enforce a follow on because of the weather and time already lost.

Wait all summer and we get weather and more weather, well done Southampton lol.

This is a very long West Indies bowling line up though. The number 6 Batsman also bowls a fair bit as well, so it's 5 quicks and a spinner. I thought it an odd decision from Stokes, to me, knowing the forecast and their batting line up, you bowl first and aim to bundle them out quickly.
