it should be time to get rid of denly surely? I know the rest are inexperienced/youngsters, but it's a chance to properly give them all a go together to build for the future/compete against eachother.

i wouldn't so much if i had a load of experience and could teach them stuff whilst out in the middle, but getting in then getting yourself out every innings is hardly something we want the rest learning.

Denly looked like himself in the practice games – saw off a lot of deliveries, didn't score all that frequently. Bracey and Lawrence, on the other hand, looked stylish and scored aplenty.

Denly might drop out once Root is back, push Crawley up to three or bring one of the other two in.

i've always liked denly, he's always done ok, but we do need players who can make 100's, we've had barely any in the last few years and that's what wins matches.

In England in recent times it's often been the lower order's batting ability that has decided it, certainly when we beat world number one ranked India 4-1.

This time though it looks as if they're intent on playing three number elevens in Archer, Broad and Anderson, and with Bess not really getting any runs in his one opportunity in South Africa it could be costly.

Wood's late hitting ability combined with being one of the real stars with the ball in South Africa may be preferred to bring more balance to the side as well as real pace.

Old Trafford though is possibly the quickest wicket and maybe the tests there are the ones being earmarked for both Archer and Wood to play. Headingley traditionally favours seam and going with an all seam attack but one including real pace too, can't be discounted.

To be axed from the side after a tour when you topped the bowling averages with 13.58 and was third in the batting averages at around 47 would be massively harsh on Wood.

We're not playing at Headingley, just Old Trafford and the Aegas Bowl

For me, the right choice, though should be rotated with Anderson.

Can see the sense in it but I’m if Broad is fit, he plays. Just have to wait and see.
Potentially some moody weather down here next few days as you say.
Deffo rain tomorrow and Thursday.

I hope not because I’ve got a few days off now to watch it, but, weather report dont look great
