Can't believe this proud thread has been reduced to cheap schoolboy innuendos...

My take on it is that De Kock stood tall while all the England bowlers balls were probing him, the other South Africans couldn't handle these balls so they just had to get out. They could really do with sitting down in the team room and see De Kock and balls in action so they too know how to stroke properly.

They'll do well to reach 150 and may be skittled for far, far less. Yes de Kock is a quality batsman/keeper but he's hardly Steve Smith and there's no undiscovered Labuschagne hiding anywhere in South Africa's lower order tail.

South Africa need to win this test and they are a million miles away - i can't see anyway on earth that this gets messy for England and don't foresee de Kock getting a double century any time soon.

(he was even nearly dismissed by Wood in that last over today)

How do you rate S Africa in the one dayers mate? Sure I seen somewhere it's about 5 years since we've lost a one day series and watching England now in one dayers is always a pleasure.

Sounds like a good track for anyone but spinners. Enough pace and bounce in it for the bowlers but seems to be even bounce which gives the batsmen a chance if they're willing to leave anything outside off. SA clearly need a reboot. De kock and Nortje the only positives for them this series. England have come back well after a rough start losing the first test, illness and injury. Hard to judge them until we see their performance against better opposition.

The shorter format with a largely unheralded squad can bring less pressure and better performances despite so many big name retirements and with top players resting, the domestic one day game in the RSA has always been strong.

The T20's with world cups on the horizon will mean far more imo than the one dayers whose world cup was last summer and It's the shortest format of all where South Africa must be looking to be most competitive.

Without du Plessis and Rabada they'll be very much dependent on the hugely talented de Kock to lead by example, he's their one true superstar with some other useful relatively new names (to English ears) to help.

Janneman Malan, Kyle Verreynne, and all-rounder Jon-Jon Smuts will all be looking to contribute and have the talent although I don't know that much about some of the other names. Lutho Sipamla and Sisanda Magala are two seamers brought in with the (left arm?) spin option of Bjorn Fortuin.

South Africa always play hard, competitive games and will be really up for it with some new lads chasing places in the World cup squad. I'd expect them to be very tough to beat at home and they should get the crowds who turn up for the shorter game.
