Cricket

Got a sneaky feeling this has a Jimmy Anderson unplayable spell written all over this game.
Pitch may turn a bit too a bit later on.

Generally speaking NZL pitches don't really break up and take spin on the last couple of days, there'll be some turn but nothing too lethal I suspect. Hagley Oval is one of the better batting wickets in the country once the pitch flattens out, as Bairstow and Wood showed.

Steady on pal. We had a major earthquake underneath our feet seven years ago. What's England's excuse?
Looks a beautiful place to watch a test match to me, cold beers on the grass in the sun, far better than a cold bowl stadium.
Christchurch is a nice but strange old place, the chair memorial is pretty heartbreaking, and I think a huge chunk of the population moved away after the first quake

It's a proper cricket oval, which we have very few of in New Zealand as the major stadiums are often dual purpose cricket/rugby. Basin Reserve in Wellington and Hagley Oval are probably the two best, and most picturesque cricket grounds in NZ.

Na, Queenstown looks the best one in NZ. Gorgeous.

Pukekura park in New Plymouth is the one. That is a cricket ground.

Re ball tampering. The fuss over this created by the media and the excessive punishments to Smith and the others shows how out of touch with realiity the majority of dinosaurs who rule world cricket really are, and I agree with Shane Warne about this. Anyone who watches or who has played cricket knows that ball tampering goes on in every game virtually, at every level. OK, if you get caoaght doing it in a Test Match, a slap on the wrists is about the right 'punishment' but that's all. I hereby admit that in a SW Lancs Division Two game sometime in the 1990s against Standish Cricket Club, I picked the seam on the ball and delberately rubbed one side of the ball in the dust on the wicket. Got the ball to do a bit more off the pitch, and also produced one of the earliest examples of reverse swing !! Me bad. But then I didn't want to be in the small minority NOT doing it.
Let the three lads who have been banned get back to entertaining cricket fans, as soon as possible.

I'll never forget England's 46 v Windies in 1994. Absolutely hilarious it was.
I remember, and I think it was the England tour of the West Indies in 1990.
England winning an unexpected test and doing well in another, and a bit of rain and then the covers suddenly 'leaked' ending the game and any chance of a then unheard of tour win over there ?
Massively dodgy, and a young Brian Lara even admitted being embarrassed by some Windies cheating in home tests over the years.

I was very clumsy and this clumsiness made me tread on a new ball a couple of times with my studs when deciding to try and stop a ball with my boot.

If you're entertained by Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft on a Cricket pitch then you've got a pretty warped perception of entertainment.

This thread has today made me look at some old highlights for the first time in years.
Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes opening the batting.
Kinell. What would they be worth in the IPL ?
With Viv Richards strolling in chewing gum coming in at number 5 Lol.

Boss, boss side that.

Lucky enough to see them play live over here, at the beautiful setting of Edgbaston.. ( sarcasm font check )

Love the Viv Richards "Play who you want man, won't make a bit of difference" bit that sprung it's head up recently with BT Sport putting old school games on. Imperious stuff.

Sure makes you think that.

The demise of the Windies as a real force, esp in Test cricket is such a shame. When I was young, and getting into sport other than football, they were by a mile the best side to watch. Then when Viv pitched up at Somerset with Botham, well, just fantastic memories.

And on the subject of legendary WI cricketers, I will check to see if one is dead before I post a snippet about him.

Hang on a mo.
