Marvellous story straight from the Beefy textbook, what an ending to a stupendous career.

England's 'more than' man

More runs than any other Englishman
More runs than any other opening bat
More runs than any other left hander
More caps than any other England player
More centuries than any other England captain

Well played chef, a perfect 147 clearance to finish it

England need to bat on for another hour I'd have thought, declaring now would give India every chance if they weren't bowled out, one great effort for Kohli could inflict an embarrassing defeat.

Bat on and get 50 or 60 more in the next hour if they can, they'll still have over 100 overs or near enough, and will make it a little more difficult than just three runs per over.

Once you're out of reach you can help the spinners with catchers in place, to pull out now risks a Kohli special, and he's well capable.

India's chasing outside Asia is terrible, hoping they get four quick wickets here.

Once burnt and all that, West Indies had no chance when Root declared but won relatively comfortably, it was in recent memory and Root must have it in his mind.

If Kohli makes a huge one on what now looks a decent wicket, they could feasibly chase 400 if left 120 plus overs.

They're now batting time as much as runs, need both to allow them to forget about runs when bowling

Give them no chance

Yeah I get that, I just think that with the pitch as it is they also need as long as possible to get these wickets.

I always moan about this and they always seem to win by about 200 runs anyway.

No argument here, a tremendous batsman.

I was thinking about this on my drive home, although he has all these great figures, how would he compare to Graham Gooch? Goochy didnt play as many innings due to politics and Kerry Packer ploughing the furrow to ruin sports, eagerly followed by Sky and now BT. If the two had played the same number of games, then would Cook still be the best?

Quite a formidable opening pair once a time machine is invented, no doubt.

464 from around 17 overs tonight and 90 tomorrow, looks about right.

Makes it in all probability impossible for India to win and England can crowd the bat in the search for wickets.

I would wait until the lacquer is off the ball for Jimmy so maybe one or two up front and give it to Curran or Stokes. The ball doesn't seem to be swinging straight off with this batch they're using.

I would also bring Moeen on early to their right handers and Rashid too, the spinners should get help now with men around the bat.
