Not embarrased I admit I cried for about 5 minutes after the end of the game, deep emotions that you don' find when you win something, only with relief

Thinking "[Poor language removed]" it's my 40th birthday tomorrow...how can I celebrate that IF we've got relegated !!

Sat in the best stand for the game...nerves shredded for the whole game...
The noise when we scored...the silence when they equalised...
The penalty miss that seemed to happen in slow motion...
The Vialli chants when the Chelsea-Bolton score updates were announced over the tannoys...
Watching the ref get as close to the tunnel as possible before blowing the final whistle...
The pitch invasion at the end & the mass chants of "we want Johnson out"...
The utter relief & joy at surviving in the prem...
Walking back to the train station after the game & buying the Echo sports paper to read the match report on the train...

Actually being able to celebrate my 40th the next day !!!

You must be joining the 60 club tomorrow, Hull :)

Happy Birthday, pal ;)

I remember jumping over railing in the Gladys Street and smashing my knee to bits as a steward tried to grab me at the final whistle, blood running down my leg I went over the Coventry fans singing ‘Coventry, coventry’ for helping us stay up! A Coventry fan a few rows back from the front lifted her top and flashed her tits (and yes she was fit!) - oh the joy!!!! After that it was simply chants of Johnson out.

Was it like Jack Bauer at the end of day 3, when he's clucking and has also just had to chop his mate's arm off to stop a virus capsule from wiping out a city?

Helping us stay up ?? They were urging their team to get a winner !

I was at this and the Wimbledon game but where as the whole of that day is etched in my memory, the Coventry game is a bit of a blur for some reason.

I think the difference between the two was jubilation against Wimbledon but pure relief against Coventry.

This was tense but seemed like a tea party compared to the Wimbledon game, which was almost a spiritual experience for me.

When I was 15, I remember reading a book from my school library in which a Coventry fan documented his experiences of the 1997/98 season, including the final day.

I can't remember the name of the book, but I seem to recall him saying that he wanted us to go down since we never signed black players (author himself is black, and used to get all sorts of bother in the 70s and 80s, us and West Ham being the worst offenders sadly).

But then he started walking to the ground, Evertonians were pally with him, knew he was Coventry, and by the time he reached Goodison, he was starting to hope Everton could pull it off.

Listening to the scores come in on the radio as the only Evertonian in a group of kids.

Think that day is probably how I developed my anxiety issues.

I said more prayers that day than probably the entire year before and I'm pretty sure that year was my Holy Communion.

Remember running on the pitch at the end and suddenly realising that I am 40 years old not 15.
I skulked back to the paddock and asked a steward if I could get past and get back to my seat please.
If I remember correctly Bolton had a good goal disallowed against us and it ultimately cost them their place in the premier league.
If goal line technology was in place, we would have been relegated.

Lol. I was at Bolton that night and even from the away end, the opposite end of the pitch we could see it was in! Often wondered this season if Allardyce was getting payback for that night!

Oh the good old days of relegation battles. Nearly makes this season look good. That season under Howard Kendall was the worst I could remember, seemed liked were lost every week.

Thee Goodison Derby was good though.
