Doesn't feel very sustainable.
This is why I'm constantly reminding the missus why it was the best decision ever to buy a house! Or current mortgage is £710 pm. To rent an equivalent house would be anything from £1200-1500 based on current houses available.. that's Southport for a 4-5 bed house.

I feel sorry for renters in the current climate. The missus had a friend that had to suddenly find a new rental at very short notice earlier this year. £950 they're paying for a small 3 bed. Its shocking.

It's sickening.

Just had a look round our way. No 3 bed properties currently for rent within half a mile but one let agreed in June.

£2000 per month

When I was struggling to sell my property. They rung around and spoke to about 15 different landlords who have multiple properties to see if they wanted to buy to rent. They all said not a chance as they’re waiting for the market to crash so get them cheaper.

Like I don’t blame them. Why spend 250k cash in a property if there’s a potential it drops 10% in price in a years time. Keep the money in the bank with high interest rates and then use it when the market crashes.
Yep.. hopefully interest rates drop first though and the market doesn't crash!

Although it won't crash as bad as it did in 2008. I recently found a local Southport visitor newspaper from when our daughter was born in 2006. The house prices were almost as high as they are now! No wonder it crashed badly!

To be fair it hasn’t even dropped in the NW. Dur to the lack of properties, people still need to move house and buy. Until the demand drops, interest rates probably won’t affect it much.

My missus is pregnant so we've moved from a shoebox 1 bedroom flat costing a grand a month to a small 2 bedroom house for 1,200 a month and I was over the moon to get it despite the necessary overtime every month it entails

Of course no doubt the rent will be put up every 12mths and I already have no money to save and she will be out of work for a year with the baby so I'll be relentlessly working day and night just trying to keep a roof over our heads.

I've no idea how easy/hard other generations had it. All I know is life is hitting hard. I earn decent money, I grow vegetables, I cook from scratch and buy second hand. I still can't ever see a day when I will own a property. I feel like I'm bringing a child into the world with less than I had and when my Dad went bankrupt and my Mum worked night shift care work minimum wage and myself and partner are both university educated medical professionals it seems like we've a step forward to move two steps back.

Maybe everyone feels this sort of overwhelming financial doom, despite being 43yrs old I haven't tried to be a grown up before and I can't say I'm much good at it.
