With the modern power stations, there's a lot less waste. Do not forget that most of the UK legacy waste is from having nuclear power as a bit of a side interest in our nuclear industry with a heavy interest in being able to create a nuclear arsenal.

Not that's there anything wrong with wanting to take part in destroying the planet...
The future is definitely nuclear power. It's safe and clean.

We're a long long way away from powering the planet with solar and wind etc..

We need to be building several new nuclear power stations now!!

But we won't. Because they still want us buying all their coal and oil..

Thought the Tories wanted nuclear under Cameron and Osborne, and due to skill shortage tasked China to build them, then they realised having them build static nuclear bombs up down the country may not be a good idea.

Nuclear fusion is the answer, we are not there yet but will be in the not too distant future…….
It's only 5 years away.

That's the running joke with Fusion. China however smashed the continuous running time for sustained high plasma in a fusion reactor so maybe it's actually not that far away.

Russian physics and Chinese engineering. Imagine if we could all get along.

It was Labour who pulled the plug on Hinckley Point C. Ironically Margaret Hodge who pulled that plug had the maiden name of Oppenheimer.

It is criminal negligence that we lost our capability to provide our own nuclear solution after being more than probably the world leader.

Was thinking of Sizewell that Boris signed up to with Uncle Xi, which ended up costing you and I £700 million.

We could probably turn round tomorrow and declare that we don't need gas/coal power any more. It wouldn't surprise me if they had Fusion power already.

Like Hydrogen car power etc etc. They will never release new cheaper cleaner power methods until the oil runs dry in the ground..

We don't have viable fusion power yet. I don't think that is being withheld from anyone. Though it does have some really wild socio-economic consequences that could benefit us all.

Hydrogen makes sense and the industry surrounding its manufacture, storage and use is rapidly expanding and probably not that far from hitting mainstream awareness.

Nuclear power would negate that issue? We need a mixture of renewable and nuclear.

I do agree we should have a long term plan to come off fossil fuels.

Brexit none factor really, main issues are clearly caused by the war in Ukraine, and pandemic. Mainly the war in Ukraine.

How about looking a little further back and why Russia took Crimea. I’d highly recommend looking into John Mearsheimer. Multiple excellent lectures available.

I personally don’t support the war, there could and should have been peace, we need peace now. I don’t want to contribute a penny towards it. Never mind thousands and thousands a year in extra costs for something that’s totally avoidable.

The Ukraine war has cost every adult in the UK £1000 according to the Guardian with regard to energy(I suspect it’s more, and it’s not including fuel). That was in February 2023 it’ll be more now. God knows what food inflation is.

No, inflation is caused by the Government printing extra money, that's it. Everything else is just narrative.

'They' have already released hydrogen cars and they are becoming more and more commonplace as the technology evolves.

Indeed, if only more people would take the time to understand these basic financial mechanisms, perhaps we wouldn’t be in the mess we are in at the moment.
The only correction I’d say to your statement is it’s the Central Banks which print the money. The Central Banks who no one seems to know who owns them.

Let’s take the cost of goods in a basket, the consumer price index, a common well known, well understood measure of inflation.

The price we pay for the basket of goods is based on costs + margin.

If the costs of energy goes up you’re in big trouble, everything goes up, due to the fact that energy is used to get raw materials, manufacture, transport and store goods.

If the costs goes up then so does the price, therefore we can have inflation without printing money. This is called cost push inflation.

I don’t disagree printing money can cause inflation. Especially if printing money is in response to the above, say to help with energy bills.

The notion that inflation is only caused by printing money is false.

Nope. We have the data for this, about 200 years in the UK. There has never been an inflation without a sharp increase in the money supply. Likewise there has never been a sharp increase in the money supply that didn't result in inflation.

MV = Py

When you increase the money supply, the price of things goes up it's really that simple.

Everything else is narrative that is being sold to you.

Inflation (printing money) robs us all of our money by constantly debasing the value of the currency.

Structural and un structural inflation or sommet innit? Price of bread = unstructural, money supply = structural.
