TBF we'd probably all go without for a week and then realise how completely toxic it all is.

Yesterday I was told our local hospital (Fazakerley) was in complete lockdown as it had become completely overwhelmed.

I live right outside that hospital, my mum works in that hospital in the pharmacy so knew it was 100% rubbish.

Textbook Facebook nonsense. People need to realise how dangerous it is spreading these rumours.

Would love to know the true number of infected at present in the UK.

around 14,000-15,000 official cases - how many not tested at home?

The answer to that will determine how deadly the virus actually is. The death rates particularly in Europe are harrowing right now but we simply dont know how many people have it considering this thing is very infectious and spreads so fast.

The death rate could be anywhere from 0.5 - 8% looking at unofficial or official figures.

over here they're saying the real number could be anywhere from twice to ten times the official number

Ok.

So the staff who's job is to arrange training exercises every single day for other staff for generic things, that won't be going ahead for the foreseeable are hero's? The coders who literally put numbers into the computer all day for a financial reason are heroes? Call centre workers who literally just transfer calls to other departments are heroes? What about the clerk's whos job is to sit on reception on clinics that aren't going ahead right now due to them moving to telephone appointments, are they hero's? Sat in an office with nothing much to do?

The term hero seems to be getting watered down it seems.

Btw I now work in the NHS in an admin role, moved over a couple years back for the job security. Am I a hero then? I and my department /staff have zero contribution to the actual treatment of patients, certainly have no connection to what is going on now. Should I class myself a hero simply for being an NHS staff member?

Because I don't. I don't personally devalue the term when there are people right now saving lives every single hour with everything going on.

Well you're contributing to the system which is helping save lives. You're doing more than I am in that regard atm.

I haven't called anyone 'heroic', here, either. Just saying everyone's working towards one common goal.

I reckon you're looking at about 60-70,000 who may have been infected overall, many of which have probably already had it and won't even know. That's being very conservative.

I don't think the death rate will be higher, though.

On clapping, the best way you can show your appreciation to NHS workers is not voting Tory.

Whopper. Stop turning this sort of crisis into a crude party political issue. I've never voted Tory in my life but I'm a lot happier having Boris Johnson in charge now than Corbyn, McDonnell and Abbott.

Those three were fringe politicians their entire career - especially Corbyn and McDonnell - they should never have been anywhere near the leadership. Hopefully with Kier Starmer the party starts to build up properly.

Difficult to comprehend

The death toll from coronavirus in Spain has risen to 5,690, up from 4,858 yesterday.

The number of confirmed cases now stands at 72,248, up from 64,059 yesterday, according to the Spanish health ministry

Genuinely think we're in the millions at this point. 80% or so asymptomatic or extremely mild.

TBF given the people who have been infected, I'd say ten times the official number is probably a big understatement
I suspect a lot of people will show very mild symptoms or be asymptomatic, so we’re not even certain on numbers of such cases so it’s very difficult.

Two weeks ago, I felt horrendous for three days although I had no fever or cough. Right now, I’ve got a very tight chest, but again no other symptoms.

I could have had it or I might have it now, but we only really know when it meets the threshold
of either showing the symptoms, bed bound or hospitalised.

To be fair if you didn’t want to contribute to the problem your post should have ended with the bolded bit...
