I've been allowed to work from home for the next two weeks when I do return to the UK this Saturday.

My only problem is that I don't know where 'home' is going to be. I gave up my tenancy to my flat before I set off for S.E. Asia and both my mother and step-mother have underlying health issues, so I cannot stay at either homes. I've looked at hotels but cheapest is £800 just for two weeks.

Suffice to say, I sincerely hope that you and your grandma aren't affected by this.

Indeed, meanwhile 28000 people a day still die of Turberculosis... And 3 people will die in the UK from the hand of their partners. Another curious thought is how our media have concentrated on China and Iran, sure it's just coincide they are two biggest protagonists to the USA.

Similar vein, we had a fella sacked last week because he refused to go to China for 2 weeks to organise the company's response.

Our Kuoni rep in Sri Lanka offered my wife and I a bottle each at the Airport, should have taken them and then I could have sold them on our return to pay for the holiday.

On a more serious note, they are pretty relaxed about the whole thing here. No one (locals) wearing masks at the airport. Quick health monitor form to fill in at immigration and hotel with temperature check.

Plenty wearing masks at Dubai airport though. Fortunately straight off one plane and onto another.

Everyone more than happy to still shake your hand. They are convinced the virus won’t survive in the current heat. No one is really talking about it either so it’s like living in a bubble where you may find you suddenly turn up at the airport to find the whole world in pandemic mode and your flights been cancelled and your like “what the..... “

That's a bit crap if you can be sacked for that, especially if he seems to be in a fairly senior position. Surprised that's even possible.

Absolutely gutting but there is nothing you can do about such a freak set of events and timings. Like you say you've just got to enjoy your holiday.

I don't blame the father in law for pulling out either, although I would hope most cases are light, I saw one woman talking about how she woke up at night, room spinning and then was in hospital for 9 days. The reason she was talking about the situation was to try take away the fear of the virus...but that doesn't sound like a small bout of flu to me!

She was in for 9 days because of quarantine not the serious level of the illness. Anyone who has had a bad cold can tell you the room has spun

He'll have pocketed 6 months salary as a "shut up", I imagine.

Does anyone know what measures they are taking for passengers arriving at LHR / LGW from Asia? Will I have to do anything else other than get peed off with the automated passport scanner for not working correctly?
