Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Am currently holidaying in Cyprus, and as of tomorrow they bring back in mask rules for people in indoor places. They only relaxed the rules about a month ago.

I got a bus this week, and it was compulsory masks. No mask, you don’t get on the bus.

The staff in the hotel I’m in are very scared about being shut down again. Really hard to see.
I'm a bit scared as me, my partner, and kiddo are all flying to Madagascar in 3 weeks, which will probably be the peak BA.5 variant. 24 total hours on planes, plus a 3-day drive (albeit with colleagues)...high likelihood of us getting it. We only have 3 weeks to do our research so we can't afford to get laid up with sickness.

Yeah, tough AF that.

I’ll be honest, I got a close contact notification from the app while I was here(!!), and several hotel staff have gone off sick (I’m fine, as it stands).

It’s obviously rife again, I guess at this point we have to rely on the immunity provided by vaccination, combined with reduced severity of the virus.

I’ve been pretty Covid conscious throughout, but am in the camp of dealing with it as an endemic illness which we have to get on with, but if a few additional rules about masks come in, I’m fine with that.

Sake

Taking any restrictions aside, it’s a nightmare, staff here are c20% down on people in work. It makes management of the day to day stuff impossible.

Dunno how ill the staff are, but ill enough not to be in work. Get the feeling it’ll be another year or two before this type of industry gets back to anywhere near normal. Really sad. Staff were saying they were back at 95% of their usual business, after basically 2 years of zero. This could jeopardise it all again.

Fingers crossed it all goes ok mate

I was in Cyprus a month ago and there were no restrictions at all anywhere, didn’t even require a negative test on entry.

The anti-vax grifters such as Bret Weinstein and post-Malone are making a lot of this sham paper that purports to show that vaccines are harmful. The paper is a great exercise in p-hacking and double-counting, not science or rigor; it’s also the type of paper dholliday would link to with his “I’m not anti-vax but here is another long anti-vax thread.” Good take-down of this sham result here.

Do enjoy all these numpteys citing supposed academic text to back their opinions though. It’s a whole new world
