I know lads who have AVCs invested in managed funds have lost a few quid.
I am hoping to retire /take redundancy this year so all mine are in a cash fund ,just luck

I told the wife yesterday that by virtue of having a few shares in an ISA she's a rich Tory. She looked quite proud to be fair, but then remembered that it was me who persuaded her to buy the shares, and ranted at me for an hour about losing all of her money.

Which is not necessarily a good thing. Done right, the US won WWII and put men on the moon. But this is the same government that permitted the trust era, engaged in forcible sterilization and gave us Jim Crow.

There are problems that only government can solve. Crisis intervention during an epidemic is on the list. However, I would prefer that the crisis response not become the leading edge of a long-term police state.
We all would. But if there's an existential threat, individualism has to be sidelined and the state must ensure the conditions for a unity of purpose. Even free market thinkers concede of the concept of the common good (or common weal). This is just such a time for it.

I don't know why you would find that unusual.
We are always wrong

That Matt Hancock. Furtive looking type. He hasn't a clue, has he? None of us do I suppose but he's paid more.

If he hadn't been wearing a shirt and tie I'd have put my boot through the TV screen.

Hope you cashed in before the markets crashed
How is your lady wife
Recovering well I hope

Been in cash for months mate. Got some thinking to be done now though. She is coming along fine thanks. Slow but steady. Cos I could retire and be at home they were happy to discharge her, so full time carer/cook/gardener/shopper/dogs body till she is fighting fit! Will probably do sommet part time then.

We can often give out about our spouses but times like this make us appreciate them more.
My wife often asks where would I BE without her
The pub is my usual answer ,lol
