I’m not sure I agree with ending plan B but takes like this are wilfully idiotic. Plan B was implemented because they had no idea how severe Omicron would be - as soon as it transpired that it wasn’t anywhere near as severe as feared, the need for Plan B lessened.
I’m sure that persons heart is in the right place, but I’m not sure their brain is.
I’d agree with the sentiment and context generally you mention mate, the mask thing at a minimum seems a bit unnecessary to my mind. The wave s milder compared to Alpha or Delta but still impactful. We’ve a good 5-6 weeks to the end of flu season.
Somehow there seems to br a mentality politically in the U.K. that any precautions at all are a bad thing, not sure the trade off or impact is worth that all or nothing approach myself.

Agree - to be honest, I really do think people’s patience was wearing thin anyway, but the Number 10 party nonsense has put pay to that all-together.
However, I do think we’ll see a similar thing happen gradually in most countries soon - the UK has just been the first to fire the starting pistol, not because it’s the right thing to do, but because the noise distracts people from the clown running the country.
It does seem pretty risky nonetheless. I know my wife's trust are somewhat crapping it as staffing is already stretched and a lot of people in their 50s are coming up to retirement. Chuck in the vaccination mandate and any Covid-related sicknesses and it seems highly risky to remove the pretty modest restrictions at a time when the NHS might lose a decent chunk of workers to the vaccine mandates.
Let's be clear about just what these restrictions are though. We're talking about wearing a mask indoors and showing you're vaccinated at events. That's pretty much it. I went to the opera on Wednesday and it was as simple as showing your vaccine record when you showed your ticket. It couldn't be any easier, and slipping a mask on is hardly a big imposition.

Ireland set to announce complete relaxation of covid restrictions tonight. Mask wearing in certain situations and vaccine certs for foreign travel only to remain.
Cases still very high despite us basically telling under 30's not to bother getting PCR's and just to reguster positive antigen tests - which not everyone bothers.
Feels a bit political if I'm honest - despite being thoroughly sick of restrictions myself.

These people do my absolute nut in. There are a tragic number of people I am struggling to remain friends with who are down this rabbit hole. I wish they'd get a bloody grip of themselves. They seem to have lost all sense of reason.
1. Vaccine: Minuscule amounts of serious complications and deaths per million doses. Not a bio-weapon.
2. Covid-19. Much better at killing and seriously affecting people, in the many thousands per million. STILL not a bio-weapon!!
