Part of the issue though when it has came to prioritising vaccines is the way in which they never seem to factor into thinking when it comes to the restrictions etc. Even now , as laid back as it's become in hindsight in terms of 'rules' , whether people are vaccinated or not is neither here nor there. After all , a new variant in 5-6 months and it's back to vaccinations for everyone and potentially restrictions again based on that.

If the treatment had been the focus then could it have saved more lives? How many people died that maybe wouldn't have if it could have been treated during the illness?

It makes you wonder if the global approach was wrong, although I have no idea if a medicine can be developed as fast as a vaccine can in all fairness.
Know I’m a bit of a broken record on this but an earlier appreciation that it was airborne and focusing on how to create better ventilation and filtration in indoor spaces and modified behaviors around the places most at risk of mass transmission could have been very impactful and would broadly help against other airborne diseases.

yep I think that's fair Legs. Like I said I don't really back it or understand it enough to say it's a miracle drug or whatever. Just that I'd hate to think any potential solution/treatment is being scoffed at and missed.
I think at this point there probably have been trials on actual snake oil people have been so desperate to find something that works!

Edit not quite snake oil but close!

Some people still don't seem to get this. At Christmas I had family members who were talking about hand sanitizer loads but didn't want to open windows for ventilation.

I bet if you asked the whole population a lot of people would still think a lot of the transmission is from surfaces.

Yeah his view on Ivermectin is a bit off but tbf he usually corrects himself when he gets things wrong, which is more than a lot do.

Ivermectin has been used successfully as a treatment though. It's obviously not a sure fire answer but I don't think a classification of any link to it as 'misinformation' is healthy because it's just another drug that is potentially on the table to treat COVID.

And look at the page you linked even.

In November 2021, Campbell made false claims about the use of the antiparasitic drug ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment.[3] A few weeks later, another widely-viewed video of his was used by anti-vaccination activists to support the misinformation that COVID vaccines cause widespread heart attacks, which he had not said.[4]

Him putting a video out there that others then use and lie about isn't on him is it.

The coverage of Ivermectin in some media outlets has been as irresponsible as saying it is definitely the solution. It isn't just a horse de-wormer ffs and saying that is really dangerous and shames people. Which is mad. But it's a media problem. CNN were dreadful for it and rightly called out.
The fact that he even made a video about that horribly misinformed abstract (stating a link between mRNA and heart attacks) is definitely on him. He clearly doesn’t have much of an eye for pseudoscience science, despite his tepid caution. I did a quick read of that abstract (before Campbell’s video) and knew immediately it was nonsense that was not to be engaged with (similar to all of dholliday’s postings). Campbell was either being naive or trying to gain more YouTube clicks. Either way, a poor choice of topic for him to base a video on.

Indeed.

Presenting misinformation on a highly viewed platform and then putting a “not sure though folks” is still presenting misinformation on a highly viewed platform and is irresponsible.

In November 2021, Campbell quoted from a non-peer-reviewed journal abstract by Steven Gundry saying that mRNA vaccines might cause heart problems. Campbell said he was not sure about the claim or its quality, but did not mention the expression of concern that had been published for the abstract, saying instead that it could be "incredibly significant". The video was viewed over 2 million times within a few weeks and was used by anti-vaccination activists as support for the misinformation that COVID-19 vaccination will cause a wave of heart attacks. According to a FactCheck review, Campbell had in his video drawn attention to the poor quality of the research on which these claims were based, pointing to typos in the abstract, poor methodology, and a lack of clear data.[4]

That's from the article you linked. I'm just not sure where the line should be. And I'm not comfortable with Silicon-valley social media giants being able to judge what is or is not 'misinformation'.

But yes, a poor topic to pick. I prefer it when he sticks to the numbers. like he's done with Omicron, and then gets experts in certain fields on.

He's very pro vax though. He stresses regularly how important it is to get vaccinated.

Not looked into this so don’t know if peaceful or not but one thing does surprise me about the UK during this pandemic is that there has been no serious disorder. Yes the odd protest has been covered on the news but knowing how the inhabitants of the UK like a good riot it is a bit of a surprise to me anyway

but he did more than say 'not sure folks'

Maybe he could have and should have waited for more information to come out - would have been the smarter move wouldn't it.

But just if he gets that wrong, doesn't mean everything else is wrong. He's been bang on about the Omicron surge so far, for example.

We don't like a good riot compared to our European neighbours. The French have one every week.

I’m aware of that quote from the fact-check article as I read it. I’m only stating that he shouldn’t have discussed it in the first place, which has nothing to do with Silicon Valley media types—it was his decision to either cover it or ignore it.

That said, he does some good fact-based videos.

I agree, poor topic to pick at least until the paper had been peer-reviewed

NEA … if what I have at the moment is covid then I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy… whole body is actually hurting as it’s aching so much and body just won’t stop shivering despite me being in bed with dressing gown still on socks, and the headaches are unbelievable… on the plus side I’ve not eaten much Christmas chocolates

Sounds horrid, hope you feel better soon x
