Yea I thought that when I went for a test in Portlaois 3 weeks ago, in a que with people who for whatever reason feel they need a test be it symptoms or close contact and we are all inside in a que. I had a cough and sore throat was negative though.

I agree mate, i went up to the new hand ball alley in Croker, at the end of Nov for the same thing after being sent home from work, it wasn't managed great knowing what i know about infection and prevention control. That was during Delta (as far as we know) and thought it was a hairy environment, if Omicron is more transmissible think it needs looking at, like i said based on above positivity %, if your on the que, 1 in 4 of you is going to be positive and growing by the day, seems fairly high risk to me.

Something, i haven't seen mentioned is the a possible potential risk with test environments and the nature of Omicron. Based on the above data if you are going for a PCR test in the que there is 1 in 4 people who will be positive, we believe Omicron is 6-12 times more transmissible then Delta, seems tome that the PCR testing environment might be high risk. On the subject of Lateral flow/antigen tests, this is something may need to look at, to maybe stop possible transmission in testing environments if there is high concentration and frequency of cases in testing environments.. Or maybe how we are going about PCR testing. This is a while new set of cards we will be dealing with, so we need to look at our existing measures.
I think the mitigation procedures would eradicate most of the risk, especially drive through test centres.

First data I have seen about the drop in traffic due to Covid rather than anecdotal.

Unless Greggs had a great Christmas offering I’m not aware of lol

I’d say that lines up pretty neatly with what it’s felt like here the past few weeks. Although I’m quite surprised anyone in The City is reporting roughly 50% of Jan. 2020 traffic. That place is a ghost town right now. I used it to my advantage the other day though, as I just looked up the only walk-in vaccine site in the Square Mile and went there. That’s how I was in and out in less than 15 minutes.

“The Covid modellers at Imperial College have begun to back down. About time too. Over the past few weeks, they have made extreme claims about the omicron variant that cannot be fully justified by fundamental science, let alone by clinical observation.

Academic etiquette restrains direct criticism, but immunologists say privately that Professor Neil Ferguson and his team breached a cardinal rule by inferring rates of hospitalisation, severe disease, and death from waning antibodies, and by extrapolating from infections that break through the first line of vaccine defence.

The rest are entitled to question whether they can legitimately do this. And we may certainly question whether they should be putting out terrifying claims of up to 5,000 deaths a day based on antibody counts.

“It is bad science and I think they’re being irresponsible. They have a duty to reflect the true risks but this is just headline grabbing,” said Dr Clive Dix, former chairman of the UK Vaccine Task Force.”

I’ve been saying this about Ferguson all along, the man is a egotistical panic maker…..
