Is it true that they now wouldn't be able to get measures in place for Christmas? I seen something about 48 hours notice being required for the votes?

They have to recall Parliament, which they currently " have no plans " to do, which requires 48 hrs notice.

There is a plan for them to recall after Christmas though.

It would appear that there is an incredible amount of resistance to a lockdown or even further restrictions, talk of resignations and would undoubtedly require the support of Labour to get anything through.

I think there is genuine and legitimate frustration on the part of people who have followed every guideline, accepted every lockdown, conformed with every vaccination and now being faced with more restrictions largely because of an unvaccinated section of society.

It now needs not to be gentle support and encouraging people to get jabbed, it needs to be swift and hard punitive impact on these people as we get on with our lives.

No jab, no access. To anything above minimum survival amenities.

Shut up Adolf.

I think it's likely Labour would support them. At worst they would abstain and it would go through anyway.

Suppose they could bring parliament back tomorrow and vote Thursday or Friday? Seems unlikely that it will be pre Christmas now though.

Labour will back it. They are the party of lockdown now.

What you are suggesting there is ridiculous and has no place in this country if you want to live like that go live in China

I just don't agree that's right tbh. This spread of Omicron can't be blamed on the unvaxxed. It's just a new variant that has mutated and spreads really quickly.

If restrictions are brought in, which they will be, it's because the government(s) around the world are panicking based on the modeling. And we should have a right to know what that modeling is. Based on all of the available data, Omicron is milder. So we need to know if the modeling is based on that, or if it is based on it being more severe and, if so, why is that the case.

The truth is, nobody knows. The doom mongers in here say we will, but I personally don't think so. The virus is getting less severe and our situation, while it might not feel this way, is slowly but tangibly improving. And it's only slow by the standards of our own perception. The fact is, we have never had to deal with something like this before in our lifetime and have no past experience to draw on to manage our own expectations. That makes it easy to be impatient. But one thing we can say for certain, vaccines have worked, they have made our outcomes much better, our outlook more positive and provided a roadmap out of this. Every inch of research and data support this
See the thing is mate this is true yet why are SAGE and other advisors seemingly advising governments based on it not being less severe?

Based on the evidence of the severity Omicron in other countries so far, which is all there is to go off right now (that'll change very shortly I know), then you have to wonder where they are getting these possible figures from.

I'm not saying they're wrong, it'd just be nice to know how they are working out the severity of it. Is it just guesswork? Is it based on the data from SA being wrong?

I wonder if he agrees with the notion that we should demand all obese people are segregated from society until they lose weight and stop putting strain on the NHS and taking up hospital beds from us pure and healthy people. Because that’s pretty much the exact logic he’s using to channel his demented world view.

I'd be up for it

Fatties

EDIT: Obviously this is a joke. I can say it though, I used to be well fat.

I didn't realise you could catch obesity from someone else.
