Worried now that boosters from now onwards are too late. Takes roughly 3 weeks to be effective and the storm is already here. The variant cannot be stopped and is already flying through the UK population especially in London.

Worrying times.

All I know for sure is that it is all very very very exasperating and exhausting. Perhaps I stress too much about it, but last winter I found extremely difficult.

In some respects I think the government are so scarred by what happened last year that they'll hit the panic button. Well, they've arguably already done that. It is unenviable position to be in. Many think it'll be widespread mild morbidity with low mortality so we should be less worried. If it ain't though they'll get hammered. Absolutely lose-lose scenario.

Pfizer study suggests 7 days to get a large number of antibodies.

Doesn't take as long as the body is already prepped to respond from the earlier vaccines.

That's why people shouldn't be too harsh on judging them whatever their beliefs are.

Anyone saying they shouldn't impose any restrictions will go quiet 'IF' it ends up making a large number of people ill.

It would be foolish to take risks with a new strain that even scientists don't fully understand, even if early signs in S Africa are suggesting it may be less dangerous.

It may be that it's only prior vaccinations and natural infections in people that are resulting in it making less people sick.

South Africa recorded it's highest number of daily cases this year on the 12th December with 37,875 cases

The result of these cases? 21 deaths

Compare that the figures on January 19th - When 9,839 cases apparently resulted in 839 deaths

Either this thing is basically the flu - or something doesn't smell right

It'll be like a bad cold to most people I'd imagine. Trouble is it'll be deadly to the elderly. We have significantly more 60+ people than SA. We just need to wait and see how this turns out. Best to be overly cautious imo.

Yeah and we'll also have flu to deal with. Also, flu is nowhere near as infectious. The NHS has barely caught up with the first wave nevermind the second and third.
Problem with the flu, it might get lumped in with this variant and make it look worse. Somebody dies if flu, but has covid in their system. Goes down as covid. Even though it might be flu that took them out.
These figures could be manipulated any which way, and the vast majority will be non the wiser.

Look the interesting thing for me is looking at the figures and comparing it to how SA broke down the figures . I specifically saw they saw they had people come in with various injuries , breaks etc who tested positive for covid . We’re saying nearly 6,000 went into hospital with covid . It feels important to find out if they’re admitted suffering from covid related issue or are admitted and tested positive for covid .

I can appreciate the logistical issues presented by both but obviously it feels relevant to ask .
