Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I`d say the younger age groups are getting it for the purpose of liberty and freedom and the older groups to keep themselves safe.
Originally I would say it was for protection. But with the booster, I'm only getting it when eligible so I can keep my freedom to do stuff. I don't feel I need more protection at this point. I only had my second shot at the end of August.
I agree, and it seems people are only doing it for freedom so to speak.

I personally think that's the wrong road to go down.

If they want us vaccinated more then all they have to do is threaten our freedom, which is exactly what's happening now with the boosters and this "new variant"

Bit of both really. This Omicron variant is gonna rip through the UK so they’re aiming to get everyone boosted by Xmas. It is milder so that’s good, they introduced immediate testing for any arrival from abroad, they aren’t doing 10-day isolation for any contact cause that’d shut the country down, but they’re hoping that the boosters are basically gonna render Omicron very, very, very mild for most people.

It’ll be in France in 2 weeks, the US in a month. Can’t stop it, can only try and slow it down. It’s either do what they’re doing now, or lockdown. The issue obviously is if they do all this now, and then go and lockdown anyway
It's already in Australia in 2 or 3 places and is busy doing its 2,4,8,16,32 thing
Up to now The Feds and States are saying...No Lockdowns - we're living with it (aka, the people might not wear it if we did call one)

Think the understanding is that it is milder, but (plucking numbers out of the air here) if its three times as transmissible but half as deadly you might, in theory, end up with a similar outcome to that of the delta variant last winter if the vaccine isn't as effective.

This is essentially the issue at the moment. We just don't know the impact is, so it's best to proceed with caution.

Hopefully, if vaccines prove to remain effective and it ends up very mild then there shouldn't be many issues.

The attitude from some tory backbenchers beggars belief. Perhaps they just don't understand.

I was just reading that the First Minister for Scotland said "The R number for Delta is one, and the R number for Omicron appears to be two - and is possibly above four." I would imagine it is similar or worse in England. That's not good

I'm in that weird situation where I'll take the vaccine because I'm told to, even though I don't believe a word they say (basically an anti vaxxer vaccine taker - as anti vaccine mandates/coercion basically means anti all vaccines now apparently). But I'll get zero benefit from it, as I won't be showing vaccine proof to do things. Essentially written off abroad for definite and expect I won't be able to do music/go to football which are the main things I (used to) enjoy. Didn't mind it over summer as it wasn't law plus I had my second pretty late so was able to use tests. But now its law those things are behind me.

Once the mechanism is in place, there'll be more demands beyond vaccines. I'm not having any part of that
They’ll keep the negative tests - it’s just a hassle for people so being vaccinated does make it easier

There is no reason why they - and every government worldwide - should not accept negative test results but then accept vaccine passes. If you have the vaccine, you are more likely to be asymptomatic, so if you did have covid, it’s possible you may not know. Yet if you test negative, it’s very likely you are negative.
