This is where I am but the problem is the covid passes. So I’ll need this booster to attend gigs and games I’ve got planned. So what can I do. I don’t want this booster (booking the thing is impossible anyway) as I’ve had two shots and had actual covid in the past 7 months.
They should keep the negative tests. There’s no reason not to.

I mean, to me it’s just easier and much less hassle to be vaccinated but as @ToffeeTim says there is no way they should be forcing people to get 2-3 doses per year

Are people getting their jabs/boosters to keep themselves safe from Covid or to give them freedom to go the match/concerts etc....
If its for the latter at what point do you stop?
Everyone I know is doing it for “freedom” holidays, gigs etc. they’ve all said they will contribute to get them. Whether that changes if we end up at 6,7 jabs then who knows.

Yep. The problem is it being de facto mandatory. Govts around the world could easily tell the masses that nothing is mandatory (re. covid apps etc) beyond double jabs but people who are worried about current variant may take another shot of pfizer etc. Mere recommendation, just know that it is available and reachable.

Apps getting constantly updated is a problem and raising eyebrows.

I think they should always allow a test as it's probably the best way of reducing risk. But it's not practical to go down only the test route. Like I went out for something to eat on Saturday night. It was a bit of a last minute decision, and there is no way I could have got a lateral flow test, but I could use the app. It's not practical to just expect people to test all the time because it limits your flexibility and would also remove walk in customers from hospitality to a large degree.

Lets see if I've got this - the whole UK Covid response thingy is still a total cluster doodar...not that here in Australia its all perfect, not by a long chalk...or is there good stuff going on I'm not seeing
Bit of both really. This Omicron variant is gonna rip through the UK so they’re aiming to get everyone boosted by Xmas. It is milder so that’s good, they introduced immediate testing for any arrival from abroad, they aren’t doing 10-day isolation for any contact cause that’d shut the country down, but they’re hoping that the boosters are basically gonna render Omicron very, very, very mild for most people.

It’ll be in France in 2 weeks, the US in a month. Can’t stop it, can only try and slow it down. It’s either do what they’re doing now, or lockdown. The issue obviously is if they do all this now, and then go and lockdown anyway

Originally I would say it was for protection. But with the booster, I'm only getting it when eligible so I can keep my freedom to do stuff. I don't feel I need more protection at this point. I only had my second shot at the end of August.

Sounds like good news if it's mild?
Not sure why it’s taken them this long. But yes mate, all of the data that’s been coming out from SA in the last week has been positive, the Dr who discovered the variant was on LBC yesterday literally saying “you can believe us, it’s mild”

However, they’re having to hedge their bets here because it’s so infectious. So if 20m people get infected, then even 1-2% ending up in hospital is big numbers

Oh yeah 100%, that’s what I mean about the hassle. It’s just easier to be vaccinated

Everything I've read suggests it's not as severe, so hopefully that's true. I don't know why we haven't been leaning heavily on the info from SA.
