they haven't changed the rules?

The rules are exactly the same as they were. There has been no introduction of a vaccine passport mate. It's just now they are making the COVID pass (which is either vaccine OR negative test result) mandatory for clubs, events etc. Before they weren't mandatory, they were just to the discretion of the venue.

And most places were doing them anyway. I went to 3 gigs at 3 different venues around the country last month and for each one I had to show my vaccine pass or negative test result for entry.
No, I know they haven’t. I also feel comfortable with people showing either proof of vaccination or negative test.

Hopefully, in the not too distant future, we won’t need to show either.

It doesn't eliminate it though which still keeps the issue in hand. Otherwise you can argue all of these restrictions are not needed , as the vast majority of the population have the vaccine now.

As others have said, if everyone is vaccinated for the most part, who are we protecting other than a very small minority of patients, idiots aside. The two aren't going hand in hand, vaccine should remove the need for restrictions , not have us double down on them.
I agree and do think that this generally is the case as we have seen since summer. I do think though, when there is limited scientific research into a strain which is being transmitted rapidly, a cautious approach should be taken which can be moved away from when/if it’s found not to be as deadly or resistant to vaccines. I won’t criticise the government for that.

Estimated ~30% drop off in nightclub trade in Scotland and Wales since they introduced the passports. Surely the government should have announced a support scheme for these businesses during the new restrictions?
I can see why in Scotland but not sure why in Wales where it included a negative test the whole time.

That said the media kept calling it vaccine passports and you had to dig a bit to find out it wasn't, so maybe people just assumed?

If I was bothered about covid, or worried about catching it due to being vulnerable for example, I wouldn't feel remotely comfortable or protected by someone just showing vaccine proof to get in

This is a good point which people can miss.

There was definitely a choice at the beginning of the pandemic, to either throw loads of money at a treatment - anti virals, or at a prevention - vaccines.

The decision, internationally, was to go towards vaccines, prevention being better than cure. But as it looks like Covid will continue to mutate pretty quickly in an endemic setting, the long term solution probably needs to be geared around a) regular vaccination for the proportion of the population most at risk (I.e the current flu jab cohort), and b) effective anti viral treatment for the smaller number of people in the ‘not at risk’ cohort who end up hospitalised.
Improved ventilation will hopefully be part of any long term planning especially for schools, nursing homes and hospitals.

We’ll hopefully get nasal Covid vaccines at some point which could be quicker at stopping infection and transmission and a lot less infrastructure to deliver.

I think if you’re going to keep the proof of vaccine/negative test it needs to be one or the other.

If you’re vaccinated, you’ve less chance of becoming ill with the virus but could still pass it on to others, which doesn’t have as much of an impact if you’re passing it onto others who are also vaccinated.

If you’re negative, you’re not passing it on full stop.
Completely wrong! It absolutely does have an impact because it keeps their quota of daily new cases up, which in tern gives them the ammunition for scaremongering, exactly what we are seeing right now with threat of restrictions.

This ends when those who can get vaccinated well get vaccinated. Then restrictions stop and so does the likelihood of new variants.
It's actually amazingly simple. Yet rocket science for some.

Nonsense. Double vaccinated people are being considered unvaccinated because they’ve not had a booster. It ends when people stand up to these tyrants and say enough is enough.
