Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

The new restrictions aren't actually any different apart from WFH, are they? Masks in cinemas?

Think he said it was that you can daily test instead of isolating if you're a contact of someone with Omricon, too. Though he was waffling as always so can't be certain.

I doubt it unless the figures really warrant it; financially and politically (votes), they can't afford it. From one perspective, they're acting early to hopefully halt one.
This is the crushing blow for all hospitality let's face it, may as well be a lockdown for them and it's arguably worse because no support. All Christmas parties cancelled and a large percentage of people not bothering over Christmas because wearing masks in a pub or bar ruins the night.

I think this thread sums it up. The people believing they know the numbers and risk to NHS better than the experts are growing rapidly in number. I feel sorry for these two who have to stand next to Johnson.

even those people are less annoying than those who simultaneously say we can get back to normal with vaccines and what do you mean I have to get repeatedly vaccinated, its all the drug companies fault

These aren't the new rules mate

They mentioned cinemas and theatres specifically.

Nightclubs with the covid pass...

They have provably lied before, presenting false graphs etc.

They are lying now. What they are saying now is completely contradictory to the evidence from the ground where this variant was discovered, including from the scientist who discovered it, and the WHO.

They're talking about how hospitalisations/deaths will go up in two weeks and have absolutely no evidence of it.

He's just spouted nonsense. He's talking about hospitalisations/deaths two weeks from now about a variant that has killed no one, hospitalised barely anyone since it started circulating around six weeks ago.

Complete BS.
Not the end of the world really, England has now come to its senses and come in line with the rest of the UK.

The passports should give a big poke to younger people to get vaccinated so that's a massive positive, just a bit stupid to leave it until now - it should have been implemented in July and perhaps we wouldn't be in the position we're in now, every man and his dog knew variants were a thing.

Think they should get away from "booster" and call it "third vaccine shot" as its now integral part of fighting this virus. Although the vaccine has been vastly overplayed as being the game changer.

'masks in all indoor settings except when eating or drinking or exercising'. Surely that includes restaurants and bars?

Having to wear a mask in cinema but not in a nightclub is definitely following the science?

playing devil's advocate, is it not better to not take the risk for the sake of a few weeks?

I'm not a fan of any restrictions at all but, this isn't a lockdown and these new restrictions aren't really even changing that much? Most offices will be on an Xmas shutdown anyway, so maybe there's a week of WFH that people would actually be going in?

They've not said mandatory masks or rule of 6 in hospitality etc (though it's obviously loads of waffle so who knows what they end up doing with this). Is anything changing from what it is right now? I don't know if that's pointless or not.
