You do realise some people can’t have the vaccine because of health issues? They still need to go to shops and use public transport. I think it’s pathetic really this weird stance you are taking. Just put a mask on when you go to the shops and stop being so whiney about it. It’s a piece of cloth ffs
In all fairness if they can't have the covid vaccine based on health issues, they have far bigger worries in life than covid.

The flu for example would be extremely dangerous to them.

Ah I see. But it's fine for the owners of a small café to have customers unmasked because they're hospitality. If they catch it and have to self-isolate etc., oh well, nevermind.

No, again it's a fundamental contradiction. The reality is that small shop should be paid to stay shut if the situation is dire enough for health emergency restrictions, or they should be allowed to get on with business if it isn't.
No it’s not okay for owners of small cafes either.

Unfortunately our pathetic govt have stopped short of making masks mandatory for hospitality.

All these businesses can do (and have been doing) is asking people to wear masks without enforcement and rely on people’s common sense and understanding to comply.

Who is going to pay small businesses to shut? How the hell is that going to work?

All it takes is for people to think about other people given the current situation and stick a piece of cloth over their gobs for a few minutes whilst inside a shop. It’s hardly a big deal.

The NHS cannot cope anyway on a normal winter. Even if this variant takes 10% off vaccine effectiveness the health service will be struggling extremely badly. Full lockdown is on its way back. Maybe they'll allow us to see family for one day at Christmas.

A full lockdown won't happen because they know people won't comply as well as last year, and people also don't believe it's justified.

There is zero justification for another full lockdown. Anyone asking for one obviously has no regard for those who will suffer emotionally and financially.

Spot on.

Which again brings me back to if masks should be mandated now, they should be mandated forever. As should social distancing.

People keep talking about 'the situation' - well, the situation now will be what it will be forever I'm afraid. High vaccination, low deaths and hospitalisations, the virus endemic and mutating, breakthroughs occurring in the elderly/infirm.

In short, we have another respiratory illness akin to loads of others we've lived with for years. You need to make the call - whether you're happy with restrictions forever, or you're not.

I'm not. There needs to be a line in the sand. If people choose to wear masks, so be it. But people shouldn't be forced.

Well you’ve completely missed the point. People going through treatment for cancer example still need to go to the shops. They might not have a support network around them to help out. And if you are going through treatment for cancer you can’t have the vaccine. But some pissy little idiot won’t wear a mask in the shops because of a mandate.

The protests have achieved very little. The vast majority will comply.

Personally I would hate a lockdown but our own personal thoughts don't matter one bit. You have to prepare to cope with the lockdown. I do think it might only be 3 months long this time rather than 5 months though.

I was down in London last week and whilst wandering around Covent Garden /Soho area I was shocked to see shop after shop, bar after bar and restaurant after restaurant all shut with signs outside stating due to Covid staff sickness we have been forced to close.

Personally I’m glad mask wearing is now mandatory however it doesn’t go far enough. It should be extended to hospitality. Any measure that helps to keep bars shops and restaurants open is surely a good thing.

It’s just a shame that a lot of people cannot be relied on to exercise common sense, but have to be forced by law to wear a mask.

Mate, you`ve been predicting lockdown after lockdown for months now and non of them have happened.

Whilst deaths remain " relatively " low and the NHS is coping, there won`t be another lockdown.

This is what the majority of scientists are now saying too.

Look at the figures, not the headlines.

That is such a small amount of people though in regards to the entire population. The same any virus applies there.

We have never had any of this in place to protect them before , despite the same risks being there.

So realistically the existing point still stands , we are putting measures in place to protect either a very small minority of the population (and therefore should wear masks from now on by law), or we are implementing them when the vast majority of the population , 50 million plus , do not need that level of protection even more.

Because even if they announce its 50% more transmissible , if it only provides mild symptoms and everyone is jabbed up, what difference does that make?

Additionally , wearing a mask in Asda is extremely important but not in a nightclub? I just went to an event recently which had thousands of people under one roof, that is fine to do but not the bus?

It's ridiculous , there is no logic behind it. Which makes it worse because they should have announced measures for the winter on July 19th as common sense preventative. Doing it now based on all the information out there is , well ridicuous.

It's really not just the vaccines protecting people though mate. Natural immunity is doing a big part of the job too, vaccines on top of that.

Why is that unfortunate?

It's actually nice being able to stand up in a pub, or at a bar or whatever you know. Not have to be lobbing a mask on every time you move.
