It’s mad. I just don’t think they give a sh.. anymore. And then people will complain if heavier restrictions are brought back in.

I’ll admit, I was lucky to be able to go on holiday so I can’t complain too much. But I went to see my Dad for his 70th birthday and I haven’t seen him for 3 months. And the biggest takeaway I have from the covid situation is how important it is to spend time with family when you can.

I know that’s why you have travelled as well. Must have been horrible for your wife being away from her family for so long
Oh the trip this week was for work. Our trip to see the in-laws is supposed to be on Wednesday. Whether we'll make it is another matter...

My lad played footy this morning and one of the opposition players looked to have snapped a cruciate ligament in his knee.

Due to the pain he was in, the lad couldn`t get off the ground, so an ambulance was called, an eleven hour wait at 11.30 on a Saturday morning

I can only imagine, how bad it`s going to be once all the Christmas shennigans kicks in.

They need to do something pre emptive. I don't know what, but I don't think covid focus of passports and masks is the only answer

Thus far there has been no suggestion that the app itself is dubious, but it does leave the door open when officially authorised suppliers are so poorly run

I remember when the NHS app was being built and that dodgy developer they got was supposedly trying to take all kinds of data. I don't trust any private company linked to the government with any private health data with the drive towards privatisation.

These days if there's any way to drive the person to the hospital you have to just do it. The waits are always mental. It's rubbish because its not going to get better any time soon.

There are tricks that bump you up their understandable priority list. If the line is dead busy, hang up; they will call you back pronto. "Struggling to breath" completes the picture.

I found that out when I had need to call 999. And I did need to hang up, and was struggling to breath, so wouldnt suggest you should deprive an ambulance from attending a proper life threatening situation. But that is what frames their response priorities.

that's ludicrous but can't be pinned on just covid.

Needs to be more ambulances on the roads, more trained paramedics. I know for sure that in West Yorks there's a big recruitment drive going on.

And a load of staff get booted for not getting the jab.

The average starting salary for a paramedic is roughly comparable to the starting salary of a truck driver. Average training time for a paramedic is 4 years. Average training time for a truck driver is 2 months.

That's your problem right there. Healthcare suffers from Baumol's cost disease, and with our ageing population the demand for care services is rocketing, which requires an ever growing workforce, but there's no money to pay decent salaries, which coupled with the high stress levels and general lack of appreciation means burnout is incredibly high. Indeed, around 1 in 5 paramedics will develop PTSD in their lifetimes. Would you do it?

Would you want staff treating you without PPE? Without washing their hands? There are already over 650,000 hospital-acquired infections per year in England, which result in over 20,000 deaths per year. Given the shortage in beds mentioned earlier, those infections account for 5.6 million occupied hospital bed days per year at a cost to the NHS of over £2 billion. So yeah, infection control is kind of a big deal.
