Compliance would be much worse if they lock down again. If you're double vaccinated you're not going to avoid seeing family members etc and then anti vaxxers just make it up anyway. The only people who would support a lockdown are the people who have masks on their twitter profile pictures.
The way the government slipped in the suggestion of another lockdown yesterday by clearly briefing their journos and hiding it behind today’s NHS ‘reforms’ suggests to me it’s very much on.
And he’s hardly convincing here is he ?!
A lot of this sort of chat is just people griping before an event though, trying to sound hard before they ever have face reality.
If this government ends up bringing in another lockdown it is only going to be because they’ve properly lost control of it again and there will be tens of thousands of people dying, and tens of thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of people hospitalised. That is going to be all around us, happening to people we know, on TV and in the wider media constantly and most people are going to do what they did in the earlier lockdowns - stay home solely because of the risk they think exists (to them or more importantly to their families who they’d otherwise visit).
There will be a lot of anger aimed at the government - and there should be - but most people will do it.
As a completely unrelated aside, have gone on the tube today at rush hour for the first time since yesterday’s record breaking crowd. Got on at Vauxhall, had to stand until Victoria, then got a seat - so today at least there is no rush. The Northern line was also largely deserted, even at 8am when it’s usually rammed.
However road traffic seemed really busy and so (combined with the mugginess) there was a horrific traffic stink in the air - so perhaps all the idiots are driving in to work because it’s safer for them (though it gives respiratory illnesses to kids who happen to live near a road).
I was really hoping the pandemic would have stopped the phenomenon of tens of thousands of dickheads using the cars that have indebted them to pollute my part of the world whilst making their way to jobs they could easily WFH for, but sadly it seems not.
Stone me dead you have to have a pretty vacant space between ears not to see this coming, this has been on cards for weeks if not months, ever since the mask and social distancing was scrapped in England.
If they start to highlight deaths again, having appeared to have not done so for weeks, you know it’s deffo coming.
I get what you're saying but the risk profile has changed in a lot of peoples minds. If you're double vaccinated and your family member is double vaccinated the chance of death or major illness is reduced massively, I'm pretty sure I seen a statistic that nobody double vaccinated under 50 in the UK has died from covid. Unless some sort of variant comes in which isn't even the case yet. If we had a vaccine resistant variant fair enough but thats not the case currently.
This country is absolutely finished in the long run unless they increase the size of the NHS.
For the delta variant there has been deaths
Fair enough, I looked online after I posted and I seen a source which suggested about 30 deaths but I wasn't sure.
The case numbers will explode this week with schools returning, the mainstream media will start the narrative and the push for another lockdown. Its all very predictable.
the government clearly leaked something yesterday.

Another lockdown would be a total nonsense. It would disproportionately harm the younger generations, as will the NIC rise if it is brought in as expected.
Wonder what the financial help will be for businesses. Extension of furlough or "sorry, new normal"i reckon 'lockdown' is just it being revved up by the media. I think it will be more restrictions; table service in pubs, working from home; smaller groups (for much longer than two weeks)
i'd be very surprised if its a 'full' one as that will completely go against the vaccines which apparently trumps everything, according to the tories
Problem for me is the businesses and job losses will happen regardless - they'll know people will meet up because of feeling safer because of the vaccines, so I imagine will make up for that by restricting or closing businesses even more harshly. Non compliance won't mean a thing because any public non compliance won't be possible, and anything like house parties will invite some well publicised finesIt will have to be stuff like that because people won't comply. You can see a few people in this thread who have complied during previous lockdowns. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't be going to illegal raves but I'll see family etc like normal regardless of what decision they make.
