It is a small sample size and not yet peer reviewed but found this an interesting study
People infected with the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 are more likely to spread the virus before developing symptoms than are people infected with earlier versions, suggests a detailed analysis of an outbreak in Guangdong, China1.
“It is just tougher to stop,” says Benjamin Cowling, an epidemiologist at the University of Hong Kong and a co-author of the study, which was posted on a preprint server on 13 August.

Cowling and his colleagues analysed exhaustive test data from 101 people in Guangdong who were infected with Delta between May and June this year, and data from those individuals’ close contacts. They found that, on average, people began having symptoms 5.8 days after infection with Delta — 1.8 days after they first tested positive for viral RNA. That left almost two days for individuals to shed viral RNA before they showed any sign of COVID-19.
….
As a result, 74% of infections with Delta took place during the presymptomatic phase — a higher proportion than for previous variants. This high rate “helps explain how this variant has been able to outpace both the wild-type virus and other variants to become the dominant strain worldwide”, says Barnaby Young, an infectious-disease clinician at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases in Singapore.

..
A small number of study participants experienced ‘breakthrough infections’ with Delta after receiving two doses of an inactivated-virus COVID-19 vaccine. But the vaccine reduced participants’ viral loads at the peak of infection.
Vaccinated individuals were also 65% less likely than unvaccinated individuals to infect someone else, although the estimate was based on a very small sample size. This reduction “is significant and reassuring that COVID-19 vaccines remain effective and a vital part of our response to the pandemic”, says Young.
interesting find, thanks!

Friend of mine is an anti vaxxer, he convinced his wife everyone who got the jab will be dead in two years.
She’s been on a ventilator in ICU for the last four days. He’s a broken man. I so want to slap him.

It's this sort of thing that makes me fume, yesterday I read about a woman in her mid thirties who had just given birth who died from covid. She already had 3 other kids and both her and her husband decided not to get vaccinated. What a waste of a life, not to mention the impact on the children. Utter loon balls.

Big corps are pretty much all self-funding their health insurance so something like a 50k covid stay for their employees hits their bottom line hard. I imagine almost all larger companies will take this step soon.
this kinda wrecks my head.
Just make the vaccine mandatory especially if you're an airline.
If you don't want to get the vaccine, don't work for Delta.
What about people who work for Delta but don't get insured through them?

And this one mentioned in the article “Delta also said starting Sept. 30, “in compliance with state and local laws, COVID pay protection will only be provided to fully vaccinated individuals who are experiencing a breakthrough infection.” Unvaccinated employees who contract Covid, without exemptions, will have to use their sick days after that.”

I imagine for Delta it was a choice of which is the least bad response they’ll get from employees. Mandating something is a trigger for some employees. Now it’s still a choice with an incentive.

Insurance companies are essentially doing the same thing and raising premiums and deductibles for the non-vaccinated population. They’re getting backlash but it’s all about managing risk.

The irony here is that the non-vaccinated population largely doesn’t like the idea of subsidizing healthcare costs for other at risk groups. However, they’re up in arms that they have to pay more themselves by choosing to be in a higher risk pool by not getting the vaccine. And round and round we go.

Where I work, all non-vaccinated workers will be placed on unpaid administrative leave starting in October.

At the same time airlines are fighting proof of vaccination for passengers. Sure would limiting the exposure of their workers if they required passengers to be vaccinated.

*admittedly posted with a ton of bias. Looking at having to cancel a flight because I won't risk infecting elderly family, but feeling massive guilt as the trip isn't just to visit but provides some respite care for my step-dad who cares for my mom.
