This is exactly the problem. Public health, like foreign affairs, was not politicized a couple of years ago.

This is what happens when we start turning real issues that affect real people into a game of shirts and skins, and play for political points rather than to save lives.

I have no idea if this is parody, sadly I don't think it is

This goes back a good few years. Previously a scientist would make a claim, let's say "a hypothesis" and would conduct an experiment detailing their methods and lay out their conclusions. Just like you did at high school really.

What happens then is that your experiment is reviewed by other scientists "peers" and they repeat the experiment. If these peers are able to repeat the experiment and come to the same conclusions then your hypothesis becomes settled science.

The problem today is that a scientist can make a claim, collect data sets as evidence to support that claim, discard data sets that do not support that claim, then try to submit that as "science".

This is how we get all the climate change debacle with some telling us the world was going to end in 1995 and others telling us it's all nonsense and it's okay to cut down the entire Amazon Rainforest.

Dominic Cummings was right. Everyone is partizan now, everyone has an extreme position. There is no middle ground any more.

indeed….

Finally someone calling it what it is.
Surely if they've delayed until now they've decided to take the opposite road to us in the "July or next spring" decision but probably sensibly don't want to say so? Just let the inevitable September and October situation make it look like they have no choice but to continue with restrictions over winter

Probably much less painful long term than when we reimpose them all here

Hospital figures - 103 deaths were announced today, up 19 on yesterday and up 26 on last Thursday. 80 deaths were in English hospitals, up 16 on both yesterday and last week. The 7 day rolling average rises to 77.57

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 113 deaths were announced today, up 2 on yesterday and up 19 on last Thursday. The 7 day rolling average rises to an even 96

There was no data revealed today for the 60 day cut off

Heard some hospital staff talking today about splitting their ICU again into hot (covid) and cold (everything else), they have not needed to do this for months, holidaying in South West.

Anyone been on holiday recently? The testing seems a bit confusing and varies depending on where you are going. Some countries you don't need a test to go. To come back to the UK you need to get 2 tests I think, one within 72 hours of coming back and you have to have 1 booked just after you get home.

LBC…

“The UK medicines regulatory body has approved the first treatment in Britain using man-made antibodies to treat and prevent coronavirus.

According to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), clinical trial data shows that the drug, Ronapreve, may be used for three purposes: to prevent infection, treat symptoms of acute Covid-19 and reduce the likelihood of having to be admitted to hospital.

Clinical trials of Ronapreve took place before vaccination was rolled out across the UK and before the emergence of virus variants such as the Delta variant.

It is the first drug of its kind approved for use in the prevention and treatment of acute coronavirus infection in the UK.

Ronapreve uses monoclonal, or man-made, antibodies that are cloned from white blood cells. They act like naturally produced human antibodies in the immune system to fight the virus.”……

Australia's a bit crazy isn't it? Just vaccinate people ffs.
I'd like to think they would if they had enough Phizer, they have plenty(?) of AZ - which nobody under 40...erm 50...erm 60...or is it 50 again now want.
Anyway they have frightened and confused the bejesus out of half the country...those who were inclined to listen, which has led to vaccine phobia.
Short version; 2, 3, 4, 5, different sorts of mixed messages - to different sections of the Country - from 2, 3, 4, different sources - QLD, NSW, VIC & Federal Govts.
