**** our worthless governor. This is nothing short of banning mask mandates in schools, just like DeathSantis did a few weeks ago in Florida. Parents don’t have the right to recklessly endanger the lives of other people’s children just to prove some stupid political point. All this against the backdrop of almost no remaining ICU beds in most of the large cities in the state.

Here in NZ we’ve just about to go into a full lockdown (only supermarkets allowed to open) for three days.

Why, you ask? We’ve had ONE community case. ??

because we don’t have any COVID. Gives the government a chance to determine if there are more cases out there aside from the one identified. I guess the fear is it could snowball into an outbreak similar to what New South Wales has.

So all of NZ get tested in 3 days? I mean getting covid doesnt make you go green, so how do they know if there are more cases?

Generally we’ve been pretty good at getting tested. I guess the theory is, if say 20,000 people are tested over the next three days and there’s no-one COVID positive, then the lockdown will stop at three days as the logical assumption is that this one person is an isolated case. And the lockdown is to minimise human to human contact in the interim.

Fingers crossed it is indeed an isolated case.

around 25% of eligible population double-jabbed and 40% with one dose. The working theory is that once the vaccine has been offered to all (they’ve offered it to older age groups / vulnerable people first) then border restrictions will be loosened.

yeah, correct. This is our first nationwide lockdown since April 2020, so that’s not bad going. Only around a couple of dozen COVID deaths I believe.

Are you planning on never opening your borders again?

I’m not the PM mate but yes, clearly, a country at the bottom of the world dependent on globalisation will open its borders again when the risk to it’s population is minimised by vaccinations.
