This was the treatment one doctor received after providing data at a school board meeting where the board decided to require masks for the next month for elementary school students only, largely on the grounds that they aren’t eligible for the vaccine yet.



Absolutely disgusting to treat public health officials in this manner for any reason, much less because they simply recommended masks for children who are too young to vaccinated.

Just booked in for my first COVID jab here in NZ 24 August; my second will be around five weeks later.

COVID vaccinations have been fast-tracked here due to more supply, so fingers crossed the vast majority of the country will be fully vaccinated by end of October-ish, and we can then look forward to border restrictions being loosened in time for our summer

Could just be an easy way to try and limit discretionary trips, even though it’s technically allowed in lots of places now. People are far less likely to want to travel if they have to add several hundred dollars/pounds worth of COVID tests to their travel expenses.

Only stops poor people. Rich people do whatever they want. They don't even isolate as the fines are 'chicken feed' as Boris Johnson would say.

We shouldn't have a two tier society its a disgrace.

The requirement for PCR testing on return from abroad should either be a mandated price or cancelled. The costs are ridiculous. Why can't the government just buy them and sell them? They could even do it at a small mark up to cover costs. Having all of these firms charging whatever they want for a mandatory test is laughable.

Try having a Welsh address mate. Whereas those living in England can choose from dozens of providers at a sensible cost, here in Wales our Day 2 test must be done by just one lab. Yes, a choice of one, at £88!
Nobody needs testing to move between England and Wales, so why do we need this ‘special’ test? Ridiculous.

That seems even worse in fairness. Its a joke. The whole process could easily be government run, they have already built up the testing capacity and could easily make it financially viable.

Whatever makes people feel safe, I suppose...

I was reading something from last spring too on how Mourinho was in the park training with Ndombele and it was going into detail how they'd broken the social distancing rules etc by maybe being within 2m at one time and I was just like bloody hell we all just accepted it didn't we.

So glad that, whatever's next in store for us, madness like that has at least been proved to be totally chuffing stupid.

once NZ got it up and running it was always going to be a quick process - just getting it going isn't it!

Hope my mate - and the people who he lives with/around - change their mind once more people start getting. vaccinated.

Must admit a bit surprised by death count getting over 100. Thought it'd top out around 80 a day for this wave.

The condition of those dying is not being mentioned, as has been the case all the way through this..
97 year old dies of heart attack is not news.
97 year old with asymptomatic covid dies of (heart attack). Is news.
I don't think they should be adding asymptomatic deaths to the numbers or at very least catorigise them as such.

The general feel here is enthusiasm for being vaccinated. Obviously there’s always going to be a few outliers.

There's a difference between the extremes, isn't there?

I don't - and never have done before COVID anyway - tend to go up to people and grab hold of them or get in their personal space or cough on them.

But I also don't jump out into the road to avoid them

When I'm on a run, I tend to give people a wider berth but I did that anyway because when you're running you tend to be sweating so it's just standard behaviour not to nearly run into someone isn't it.

I was being a bit daft with my reply

People are generally horrible though and I don't want to be near them - but I wouldn't jump out into the road if I saw somebody coming

I do think we need to get out of this - "Oooo, they're wearing a mask and Covid is over so they must be a bit weird" mindset - I saw a chap riding him bike the other day with a mask on and my initial thought was 'That's a bit odd'. Then I thought, 'If I was riding my bike near a load of traffic, wouldn't it be quite nice not to have all of those fumes flying into me"

Probably the same for those 2 ladies in the convertible TBH
