Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Long covid sounds a lot like post viral fatigue which is not uncommon after flu and even a cold and can last for months it's got all the same symptoms.. is it possibly that? but because it's Covid the scaremonger machine has gone into overdrive.

Tbf, it is like a different kind of fatigue I've felt.

The fatigue I got during COVID was completely wiping me out – I couldn't move.

While I have also had illnesses which the after-effects have lasted a week or so, but I've not had the kind of fatigue I had this week. I'm hoping it stops - like I said, I won't be saying 'oh I've got long COVID', but if it continues for weeks or months, then I'll be worried.

Ten months on and I`m still can`t run at the same intensity as I did pre virus - no hills, no speed work, plus it takes me twice as long to get into a comfortable pace, due to breathlessness. I have to jog for the first 3/4 miles, as any faster and I feel like my lungs are coming up out of my chest.

I was given inhalers by the GP, but the problem with them, is that they really dry you out, so I only use them very sparingly.

Grim mate.

Not to be selfish, but I really, really hope this won't happen to me (though you go at a bigger intensity with your running than I do!)

Compared to how badly some people seem to be affected, it’s a relatively minor thing.

It seems to be quite common in the running / cycling community, as a good proportion of people struggle to get back to their pre virus levels.

Shortness of breath and having to work harder, seems to be the common dominator.

Sad to hear mate...thought you said you were symptomless while your Mrs and kids were sick? Or you didn't feel terribly while actually carrying the virus but it hit you in the long run?

Yeah that’s definitely what I’ve found so far - any time I put in effort, I can’t sustain it, and it’s taking longer to recover between efforts.

for example, a few weeks ago I did 10km of sprinting - that 10 x 1km efforts with no rest lap and I’ve also been doing 5km efforts or 2 x 5km with a 1km rest on the same loop etc.

I did it the other day, managed 1km and then had to do a 1km rest, so in the end I did 3 x 1km with 3 x 1km rest laps.

I just didn’t have it in the tank, and then afterwards, was shot. It’s really crap, but hopefully it comes back soon. Just got to keep building up while trying not to overdo it, I guess

I just got a chest infection, nothing else, which is why I didn’t think
I’d had it. I only found out months later when I did an anti body test.

It’s obviously done something to my lungs.

I wonder how much more prevalent COPD will be, down the road.

Seems like this virus is saying, "Get fit or go home early."

I'm at a loss here
In Scotland it seems a home test is fine to travel abroad and come home.
Yet I'm isolating after being in contact with someone. I've had 3 negative home tests and a negative drive through, but still have to wait for the full 10 days.

I see latest brainwave from Boris means handing out fast food tokens and free taxi trips to the young if they get vaccinated.
So we're in the midst of the greatest teenage obesity epidemic in our history and our government are handing out Maccy D vouchers and free transport to younguns so they don't even have to walk off the calories.

Priceless knob heads!

Excuse me, that’s been changed to body positivity movement now.

giving people a grand off their student loan debts would help - and as the people who are in favour of that system on here repeatedly say, it isn't like they are going to be paying them back anyway
