Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I’ve given up on the stats now, we are scaring ourselves into permanent lockdown. By us we have loads of cases, yet in the last three weeks no one has died. People are fed up with this ultra cautious approach. Come Monday I shall be burning my mask (I don’t use buses, I don’t use the underground, I don’t go into Tesco’s). I will continue to be sensible for the next few months but we have to get back to normal life…..

How do you manage to not go into food shops??

No hospital figures reported today, last Saturday’s late revealed total was 28

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 41 deaths were announced today, down 8 on yesterday and up 7 on last Saturday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 40.57

For the 60 day cut off, 50 deaths were announced today, down 7 on yesterday and up 6 on last Saturday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 48.29
54,674 new cases

Or, if you have such symptoms, perhaps take a free PCR test and discover if you have the virus at no cost to yourself and little expense of time and effort?

Well, if you're taking a PCR test you actually have to have the following:

- Cough, fever, loss of sense of smell/taste
- Have tested positive on a lateral flow

You also have to isolate for the 24-hour period around your PCR.

If you get a positive result, you have to isolate for 10 days from when you first showed symptoms and get constant calls from track and trace asking you to disclose details of where you've been/who you've been with.

Anyone who lives with you has to isolate for 10 days regardless of symptoms.

All that for a headache?

It's just totally implausible mate.

My brother tested positive today, only had one jab. Said fluey with a constant headache.

Yesterday he was saying how he enjoys a half of bottle of wine and hayfever haze... Turns out it was COViD lol

Oh I've had a headache and sore throat every day for the past three months.

But unless I've had the worst bout of long covid going, antihistamines and nose spray do the trick.

What would you say to the nurses who are going to have to get into full PPE again for months on end ?

Or for that matter, the patients who’ll die of cancer due to missed screenings as wards and services are suspended to deal with Covid.

Yeah, same. I noticed I got quite often after running but then I released I run through fields of blossoming flowers a few times a week.

He did actually get a positive test.

Oh yeah fair enough I believed that bit - it just shows how hard it is.

And ultimately for a lot of people, and selfishly I'll say myself included, when I'm used to having those symptoms most days (I had a really bad throat/ear infection when I was younger and now whenever I get a slight sniffle I have a banging headache), it's not really worth the risk for me to go and do a PCR and turn up positive even though I might just feel a bit crap, and have to do 10 days of isolation.

I know that's wrong of me but, with the vaccine uptake etc, and I'm cautious and sensible and don't really go to places where I could mix too often, I'm honestly thinking well what's the point, unless I get symptoms.

I'm doing lateral flow every week for work, so there's already that, and if I develop symptoms such as cough, fever, loss of taste/smell - and now like sickness etc which I never get, so it would be odd and mean a proper viral infection - then I'd absolutely go and get a PCR and isolate if needed.

But for a headache and a sore throat in hayfever season? No chance.

Also, 100% the same on my tight chest. It's hard, because I've noticed for the last few years my hayfever has gone from being eyes/runny nose to mainly being my breathing. I noticed it a bit on the bike last summer and this year has been the case too - especially this last week. But, negative on the 3 lateral flows I've done and everyone I've been with for the last week negative too, and they're doubled dosed and have been for a month or so. So I don't know - is it covid, or is it just allergies?

I can understand why people just focus on the deaths (which should be lower because of the vaccines) but to me the issue this wave will be the impact on further delaying surgeries. A 35 year old unvaccinated person with Covid admitted to hsopital will likely survive (although may have long term health problems) but the cancer patient whose surgery they further delay may not be as lucky

All layered on top of exhausted medical staff :(

“Scaremongering”

July 17 (Reuters) - Britain has opted against mass COVID-19 vaccinations for all children and teenagers, with ministers instead preparing to offer doses to vulnerable 12 to 15-year-olds and those about to turn 18, the Telegraph newspaper reported late on Saturday.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) is believed to have advised ministers against the rollout of vaccines to all children until further evidence on the risks is available, the report added.Under guidance the newspaper said are due to be issued on Monday, vaccine doses will be offered to children between 12 and 15 who are deemed vulnerable to COVID-19 or who live with adults who are immunosuppressed or otherwise vulnerable to the virus. They will also now be offered to all 17-year-olds within three months of their 18th birthday, according to The Telegraph, which reported that the committee would keep the possibility of vaccinating all children "under review."
