An awful lot of people will still be wearing facemasks after Jul-19 (71% approval for public transport and 66% for shops according to YouGov)

Just hope that they don't get flak over it

No one should get flak over their choices. Anyone giving people flak for choosing to wear a mask is out of order. It's going to be about personal choice and personal responsibility.

I'll still be wearing one in a shop or public transport simply to help stop the spread of any germs.

Same here. I said a while back, I reckon SD and masks in shops will/have become the norm, and neither are that big a deal. Prefer SD if I am honest.

Indoor gigs and nightclubs seem to be the potential curve ball though.

I totally agree - but unfortunately, extremely large proportions of the population are idiots

I've been advocating personal responsibility for a long time. I don't think I'll wear a mask unless I'm with people who I know will feel more comfortable if I do. But it's none of my business what other people decide to do. I hope this doesn't become a thing because people should be free to make their own decisions.

Its been about personal responsibility from day one IMO, people shouldn't of had to be told what to do, unfortunately we live in a selfish society though.

If opening in summer when full vaccination is available to all over 18's isn't the right time to fully reopen, then will be the right time?

I genuinely don't see how we ever get into a better position than now. For me this is entirely the right decision.

Basically, after 18 months of this, the Govt have reckoned enough of us know enough about it to be trusted to be a bit grown up. The test events have been fine, like someone said earlier, future deaths are locked into the NHS calculations, and the vast majority of infections are in the younger age groups. That long tail that I recall from a slide a while back.

What happens come Autumn/Winter mind, who knows?

I need someone much more intelligent to tell me why its either open up now or next year.
Cant do it in winter but it's not like winter isn't gonna be here if we're opening up now.
What's the advantage of now versus winter, bearing in mind we're going to be open in winter if we open up now.

Or are we?
