Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

There’s certainly an aspect of alternative media having some influence, but all I’d say there is that the vast majority of these people are fairly standard readers of the Mail, Express and of course the S*n and they are saying the same things that have repeatedly appeared in those papers. The children’s education point especially is one that the likes of noted scumbag Toby Young have been pushing for ages.

It’s an interesting question, and one we probably need to understand the answer to, as it feels to me like the radicalisation is worsening.

To be fair, I’m going off anecdotal experience of a couple of mates who are anti vax, anti lockdown etc, and I see where they get their info from, and it seems to be shady alternative media.

But, yeah some of those papers (and the Torygraph as well) have been putting out opinion pieces from some proper grifters such as Young.

Schools have been told to expect bubbles to carry on from September and to prepare for the regular testing to continue.

What is actually happening on the 19th July? It seems like they plan to keep a lot of the policies and processes.

anyone might think “freedom day” is yet another scam

Our public health advisory committee has told the government that allowing indoor eating and drinking will result in 700 thousand cases in 3 months... absolute BS so far we've had 270 thousand cases but we are going to almost triple that over the course of 3 months if we are allowed to eat and drink inside.
It would appear that those on the committee have had a taste of power and don't want to let it go. Stupidity to the extreme.

Starting to have major doubts personally. Its very clear that hospitalisations will increase massively in the winter and the NHS will struggle. There is no end..

How can you plan to reopen but to continue with the crazy 10 day isolation period for all contacts. That needs to be cancelled as soon as possible. Especially if you are vaccinated.

Yeah, Australia is much lower, and WA is among the lowest in Australia. Probably because of the part of your post I have bolded - we do not have anywhere near the level of tolerance that your PM does for sickness and death, therefore are far more proactive in minimising it
What is your test and trace (T&T)?
We in UK are not using T&T as it's control system. We are currently using a fire-fighting approach by flooding breakout areas with testing. Despite our government spunking £37 billion on its T&T.

It’s not all contacts, and being vaccinated doesn’t mean you can’t catch it or that you can’t pass it on to others (though you apparently are less likely to do both).

As for the rest though, that is a consequence of what the government is intending to do rather than deal with this properly. As I’ve said loads I think this is entirely wrong but I hope it doesn’t end up in another disaster because the blowback from it will be horrific.

Eat out to spread it about, deja vu...

At this stage everyone over 17 in the country could meet up in a huge building have a massive orgy and we still wouldn't see 700 thousand cases in 3 months, the only thing that would swamp the hospitals is STD patients.

Possible Sajid will tone down his rhetoric after a few days of being presented with evidence, expected him to go in all blowhard given his financial hooorah background...

For schools its all contacts. If you're in an office or a warehouse lets face it you're getting a notification from the app. We need a process for keeping the country moving. Especially if the recent studies are correct and a full reopening will result in less deaths than flu per year.

I must admit, I really struggle to understand how there can be so many cases, yet so few restrictions (and people calling for even less)

Western Australia has just gone into a 4 day lockdown because we now have 3 cases in the community. Yes, 3. And when it doesn't spread any further, we will then be able to go back to everyday life with no restrictions other than closed borders

Because we are leaning on the vaccines - which are working.

Australia aren't back to normal. You've got your snap lockdowns, closed borders. The way out of it for you, just like anyone else, is the vaccines with then some form of track and trace.

Aus have vaccinated (two doses) 3% of their adult population. That's not good enough.

Given recent events as in buttock clench and a snog, factor in rate this government went down with this virus that's populism for you...

There's also a tiny population in comparison to the area.

Aus' initial method - great. Honestly, wish every government in Europe, especially the UK, had done as well.

Now? It's mad.
