Considering this is brand new territory you speak with a lot of confidence.

I'd just feel more comfortable if our cases didn't sky rocket over the next few weeks. Unfortunately, I think that is almost inevitable which means we are now hoping that we have got enough people vaccinated in time and the vaccines are as effective as they seem to be.
It's not brand new territory.

There has been two previous waves of this virus which enables us to be confident in the vaccines.

Plus, respiratory viruses and their infection patterns are not new either.

What is very different about this one is how much easier it is for people to control the narrative through the media.

These are my own worries and concerns about the NHS being able to deal with a sudden spike. Nothing to do with the media. I've seen no concern about the rise in infections over the past week. Just something about some fella shagging round.

I could be wrong with this but is it not the case that variants are more likely when the virus is allowed to run through the population unchecked?

But how are we allowing it to run through the population unchecked?

I just don't see where you're coming from here or what more you want to be done?

The track and trace system is in place. It's far from perfect but it is in place. People have to be trusted to follow it - it's not the financial impact which is just the concern for people; NOBODY in their right mind wants to have to isolate for 10 days. Our rules on international travel are exactly the same as most other countries - i.e. 'red and green lists' etc, even if those decisions don't seem to be based on much logic.

The people who are getting ill now are generally younger people who are fighting COVID off either without needing hospital or if they do end up in hospital, aren't dying from it.

What is the solution that you're wanting to see?

Unfortunately I don't think there is any solution to halting the cases rising over the next few weeks/months. We just have to wait and hope that everything we've been promised comes true.

After the last year we've just had I don't take anything for granted and being set in stone.

Oh 100% agree.

But we have to try and do certain things. The test events in April and May had no impact on cases.

As long as hospitalisations stay low, then the vaccines are working.

There'll definitely have to be boosters but it'll only be for specific ages/groups of people classed as vulnerable.

Cases are really high at the moment. Apparently the positive percentage is around 14% which is very high. Hospitalisations and deaths still very low. We're quite lucky we've vaccinated so many or the country would be struggling right now.

I see Javed said he "sees no reason" why Gammon Day on the 14th shouldn't go ahead.

Perhaps Hancock's been stitched-up because he wouldn't support it.

He's hardly been stitched up. He's brought it on himself the dirty get.

BJ didn't even want to get rid of him either.

Hospital figures - 3 deaths were announced today, down 2 on yesterday’s late figure of 5 and up 3 on last Monday. 2 deaths were in English hospitals, down 3 on yesterday and up 2 on last week. The 7 day rolling average rises to 14.86

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 3 deaths were announced today, down 8 on yesterday and down 2 on last Monday. The 7 day rolling average falls slightly to 17.43

For the 60 day cut off, 3 deaths were announced today, down 5 on yesterday and down 3 on last Monday. The 7 day rolling average falls slightly to an even 23

They started theirs in March/April IIRC.

They've just been crap at it.
This is correct. The whole AZ thing does not help either. We have capacity to make it here so could roll it out quite fast it has copped some bad press with the blood clotting so only giving it to over 60s now. They have just changed the rules again to say anyone can get the AZ vax if they first discuss the risks with their GP.

'Gammon Day'?

For one, get the date right. Secondly, you shouldn't be referring to just having your basic freedoms back fully as 'gammon day'

3 deaths recorded today.

well, they aren't high compared to the peaks in winter. They are high compared to what they have been.

But that's kind of the point of herd immunity isn't it?
