That's right, though seems to be very underreported. Running nose and headaches are supposedly very common symptoms now. Always worth having a box of those lateral flow tests handy anyway since they're free.

Do lateral flow tests show positive/negative? I heard someone say if you have symptoms they're pointless and need a proper test?

I use lateral flow tests all the time mate. When I got Covid in the new year I went for a proper test to confirm and just to see if the lateral flow tests were any good I used one of them at home and it tested positive.

I do one every few days now and just treat it as a normal routine.

They show positive, negative, or invalid. They have quite a high false positive rate when levels of Covid are low though. If you have a positive lateral flow test result then you are supposed to book in for a PCR test ASAP.

Ordering is surprisingly easy:

I feel they are the best mechanism we have. If we could get more people onboard to take a test once or twice per week, so many more outbreaks would be stopped at source.

Cheers mate. I've got a lateral flow test being dropped off by mum this afternoon and just ordered a box of 7 from the NHS.

Probs just a dose of the man flu but best to be sure.

I guess the early speculation was off the mark then. Sky themselves posted this just last week:

It comes back to what I was saying earlier mate - these are all estimates, models, assumptions.

The problem isn't necessarily the science, it could simply be the reporting of it. For example, the Delta variant may be 70% more transmissable, and it's reported as is.

I honestly think, when scientists aren't sure, they go for worst case scenario time and time again. Their estimations throughout this pandemic have been on average around 300 to 400% wrong. And I don't even blame them; the variables are numerous, unprecedented and happening in real time.

I tested positive 4 days ago ive been doubled jabed .2 or 3 days sore throat headache last 3 days feel as rough as a dogs arse like a really bad cold.
Ive worked throughout and never caught it get double jabbed and catch it i know more people with now than ever.

As long as that is as bad as it gets I'd take that as a win. Nowt wrong with a bit of man flu but all that getting hospitalised and ending on ITU wards was not on. Hope you feel better soon, mate. ;)

The epidemiologists should really be telling us worst case, best case, and the percentage likeliness of those and everything inbetween. For the most part that is what I have been seeing.
It's then down to the government to take that in, combine with the advice of experts from other areas and make optimal decisions accounting for everything. That's where we've glaringly failed time and time again I think. What we have now feels about right to me... I just hope they have got some handle on border control.

That's how I look at it mate and why I'm happy to do it. Regardless of having symptons or not, just doing it twice a week gives me a bit of peace of mind that I'm doing my bit.
