No, you don’t have to isolate unless the nature of the contact is serious enough that they tell you that you have to. If you clear it with a test (or tests) I think you don’t have to do the ten days either.

The app tells you whether the contact is serious enough. That could be sitting 10m away from a positive person outside. You never find out who the positive person is.

You currently have to do 10 days regardless of any test results. I think you might be confusing this with the return from abroad rules which allow you to stop isolating after 5 or 6 days if you produce a negative test.

You have to isolate for 10 days if you are judged to be a close contact of someone who has tested positive.

You can get as many negative tests as you want in those 10 days, you still have to isolate.

People who you live with don't have to isolate (unless they too are a close contact of the person who contracted covid) but do if you develop symptoms/test positive.

Which is exactly why me and my missus deleted the app.

It was going off non stop and quite frankly had become ridiculous.

Going off non stop? Are you a regular at illegal raves?

A lot of people don't use the app for similar reasons. There should be a testing option for everyone. Similar to what Gove did recently.

Thing is, the app has gone off a few times for me but each time it hasn't told me to isolate or anything, just that there had been a contact but I didn't need to do anything....

Maybe I just need to get a life :D

Testing is available for everyone. You go online and order the pack and it's there the next day.

Kendal Calling has been cancelled. Was due the last weekend of July/August.

There should be no reason for it not to have gone ahead.

(I wasn't going, it's just bloody daft that it's got canned).

EDIT: And it's down to the government not publishing the data quickly enough.

the key words being “close contact”

“If the contact is serious enough”, which isn’t 10m away from a positive person outside.

I know that I do tests for work every now and then. Some clients want them before you visit.

Gove got notified he'd had a covid interaction by the app but he didn't have to isolate as he tested daily as part of a pilot scheme. Thats not an option for everyone at the moment.

I agree with this emboldened but, though for the life of me I can’t see how you can say that whilst saying I was wrong for calling for people to be able to get a test when they feel they’ve been exposed.

He didn’t have to isolate as he can only pass it to another hobbit

My problem is with the current system. I don't think it works in the long run with 10 day isolations. Maybe an option is to have daily tests. My main point is in the long term we need a system that allows people to have as much normality as possible.
