That really isn't the right attitude. Yes, get vaccinated. However, we need to halt the May 17th re-openings and retain the widespread use of mask wearing and social distancing.

Thought masks and SD were still in play after then.

Personally, wouldnt be surprised if both remained after they are lifted anyrate.

Not really, as for the first paragraph there will be some people where vaccine breakthrough happens as no vaccine is 100% effective at stopping infection. Given the massive surge is Delhi you’d expect healthcare workers to be exposed to high viral loads for extended periods and also they would be ones getting more testing so I’d assume it might be particularly noticeable in them - the key thing is if it was with symptoms and what the rate of hospitalization/death was. To date I haven’t seem any red flags to that effect.

As for the second antibodies aren’t the only way that the body fights the virus and what you see in the lab using serum does not necessarily translate to an impact in the real world.

We lack conclusive data and new evidence may emerge but I genuinely haven’t seem much to be concerned about for vaccinated people from this, or any other, variant.

The essential point though is that more and more info is coming to light about the capabilitoes of this variant so to carry on unlocking is, to say the least, unwise...espcially when we leasrn that the Indian variant has gone from accounting for 1% of UK Covid19 cases to 11% in two weeks.

Not in indoor settings with masks in pubs and restaurants, and the talk is that the 1 metre rule will be scrapped too.

Fully agree Legs. But in fairness we are doing the highlighted bit. Nobody is testing as much as the UK and identifying different strands is something we have become very good at.

From what I understand most of the cases were in people who have travelled from India and were testing and self isolating as a result. The authorities will be doing everything possible to keep a lid on this.
The UK is very good at testing, one of the reasons why I was initially disappointed that they were not going to do surge testing (although they thankfully reversed that decision)

The cases were originally travel related but there has been community spread for a few weeks now, tbh India should have been on the red list a bit earlier.

Well, being dead selfish, I wont/cant go to a pub or a restaurant anytime soon, so all I can do is put my trust in the lab folk, and my fellow residents in my town. I am pretty comfortable with both being sound.

Bolton absolutely surging.

Gtr Manchester needs to get on top of that and Merseyside need to get on top of the Sefton surge.

Have you thought of taking seriously an issue that's killed almost 128,000 people in this country?
Air pollution causes about 40,000 premature deaths per year in the UK.

How seriously do you take that?

Over 3 million children die from malnutrition globally.

We have got covid down to manageable levels in this country. If you were really bothered about people you would switch to one of the above.

I do agree about international travel. Needs to stalled until the rest of the world is in better shape.

Until when though? I think we’ve already established that the government aren’t too concerned about the number of new cases, covid is here to stay. If hospitalisations start going up rapidly though then they will have to do something about it, until then it’s going to be all ahead full.

I really don’t know exactly what is changing next week tbh Dave, find it hard enough to keep track of the rules here in California!

Keeping simple measure like masks on kids, especially given that they and their parents are likely to be in the unvaccinated groups. would appear to have low cost/high reward impacts whilst we get more data.

Opening up indoor dining I think is more complicated as like you I believe it an important transmission vector but there are obviously significant social benefits to restrictions being at least partially relaxed. Perhaps local restrictions still being in place for those with confirmed outbreaks like Bolton?
